Mercenaries 2: World in Flames
Mercenaries 2: World in Flames
I was really looking forward to this game and it arrvied in the post this morning. The game has limited widescreen support, the best it can do is 1280x720, the game looks rubbish on my 1280x1050 monitor. I plugged in my old 17" monitor and then found the game does not even support 1280x1024. I have tried everything I can think of, editing the values in the games config file does not work.

your monitor is messed up...1280x1050?
do you know what engine it uses?

Doh! I meant to put 1680x1050. Not sure what engine it uses
Mercenaries 2: World in Flames
Yeah , i hear it doesent have 1440x900, 1680x1050...
im assuming no 1920x1200 either ;_;
Hope they get it in a patch or something

I was kinda of looking forward to this one until more info came up about it. One big tign eing teh resolution issue.. I've read some folks get no higher than 1024x768 while other can get 1920x1080 just fine.
But then it has odd glitches, poor (console-friendly) controls.. the list goes one. Not as bad as (Accompanied)Alone in the (Lit Areas)Dark, it seems. *shudder*
It will make Clear Sky, Spore, GTA IV, and the vast numer of other neato loking games this fall look more promising.
Oh and I'll be skipping Mercs 2. I'm sure i'll try it at a friends' house and be glad i didn't spend money on it.

Spore has proper widescreen, I've just got done playing it at 1680x1050.
As far as Mercs2 goes there is an ini file with the resolutions, but when you change the resolution in it and launch the game it reverts the res back down to 640 automatically, even in Read Only.

There is no online play, the only thing online about it is the ability to share your creature with people.

1360x768 ??? TV LCD !!! Please!
Mercenaries 2: World in Flames
Now that is just silly, if anything then any widescreen resolution should have been supported instead of ported directly from the consoles. Ah well, I still have my receipt, might as well get something else for now ;)

Can i expect a fix for this?
Mercenaries 2: World in Flames
That is going to be in the hands of Pandemic (the developer). Knowing how Pandemic dealt with their games in the past (updates, bugfixes) I am inclined to say "not for a long while" to "no", but that's just me being devil's advocate... :?

Native Res Widescreen Support
Solution: (thanks to AstreaEdge)
If using an Nvidia card, you can create a custom resolution in the Nvidia control panel (under Display Manage custom resolutions). For 1680x1050 native res, create a 1680x945 (59hz) resolution to have it selectable in game. This will add thin black bars to the top and bottom of the screen, but the pixels will be 1:1.

It works.
Not sure how or why but it works.
Game actually looks tons better in proper widescreen.

Does anyone know where the custom resolutions tab is under the 1.5.30.22 version of the control panel?
Alex
EDIT: My bad, updated drivers, all good now. Cheers mengzor for the link!

Since it's probably d3d based, one of those resolution overriders might work for widescreen or th2g resolutions.
Softth makes one of em but theres more than one.

Edit Mercs2.ini in your game folder then run this utility. Leave it running during game startup or it will not work.

Let me know, and Have Fun!
EDIT: I could have edited the game executable but its kinda big. So this will do.
