ATI Catalyst 8.8 Issue

Post by Yui »

Has anyone noticed that the ATI Catalyst Software Suite 8.8 download is actually just the ATI Control Center and not including the Display driver? Instead of Option 1 in the ATI website download, I chose Option 2 (which is download both files separately, the display driver and the control center). Choosing Option 1 is only downloading the control center. Maybe just a file upload mistake by ATI.

I installed 8.8 a few days ago using option 1 (CCC + drivers) and it's fine.

Does it show Catalyst version 8.8 on your software information?

Your 2D Driver, Direct3D driver, and Driver Packaging Version are not the same as mine.

Your Driver Packaging Version is 8.522-080731a-067975C-ATI - mine is 8.522-080731a-067980C-ATI

Your 2D Driver Version is 6.14.10.6844 - mine is 7.01.01.809

Your Direct3D Version is 6.14.10.0603 - mine is 7.14.10.0603

I just realized you're using Vista; that might explain why the builds are different. I'll update my old machine to check the versions.

I assume you've gotten the 8.8 drivers installed then?

Probably that may explain the difference then. It took me a long time to finally get the drivers to run properly; a lot of install/uninstall.

Here's what I did:
1. I did not uninstall the previous driver(8.7)
2. I installed the catalyst 8.8 driver suite(right directly on top of 8.7)
3. I installed the separate display driver installer(in addition to the suite)

For some reason, it only works when I do this in the exact order; otherwise, driver error pop up boxes appear. I've tried all possible ways but that's the only procedure that worked for me.

Updated my old box; same versions for XP.

That's really strange, it doesn't work with new drivers then new CCC?

Heads up if you did a bios mod like me the 8.8's will give you a black screen and you will be stuck until you flash the bios back (and you cant do that every easy with a black screen of doom....)

This happens if you overclocked the card past the normal limits (700mhz core 1200mem on the 4850's) looks like a cheap trick to make people downclock there cards and have to upgrade to a better one....

Im sticking with the 8.7's for now as the 8.8 had nothing major in it for me anyways. I will downclock the cards and update to a new cat driver when they fix X-Fire for Crysis...

Interesting info, Vicious, thanks. :)

Until I saw fairly decent scaling with the 4870X2 for Crysis, I would have said that it was Crytek's duty to fix multi-GPU... but now I'm not so sure, I think they're all at fault.
