Fix for inability to run in 5040x1050 - Official Thread

Post by khula »

I have this setup as my desktop resolution no probs. Anyone any ideas as to why not one single game will let me select it as an ingame resolution?

Do I need the SGU to enable the new modes? (I never used it for 3840x1024).

ny help would be much appreciated...

Just in my experience, I had to change the desktop between several different TH2G modes, and reboot a couple times before I was allowed to select it in game. Come to think of it, I may have had to power down the TH2G as well (mine still has power even when the cpu is off). Not sure which of those steps is needed or not, but that was my path to success.

Also, yes, you may want to try leaving the Matrox app running, even if you're not using it to change modes. I believe that was part of my process.

Once it's recognized, it works every time afterwards for every game, so it's not like you'll have to go through it on every resolution switch. Didn't make much sense to me, but that's worked twice for me after 2 driver installs.

Thanks for the reply mate, but it's just not having it. I updated the firmware and powerdesk software as per the matrox website guide. Then installed SGU. I can select 5040x1050 on my desktop and the resolution is available both in nvidia control panel and the powerdesk, but it shows my native resolution as whatever is the highest resolution I choose in the 'edit mode list', not 5040x1050.

Not one game lets me select this resolution and it's not showing as available in the SGU??

Any ideas would be most welcome!!

SAME PROBLEM HERE! SAME QUESTIONS!

IL2 does not execute with 5040X1050 in its config file.

When I go to matrox powerdesk I can click change resolution and select 5040x1050 for my desktop and that works. But I am not able to actually put the 5040x1050 in my "edit mode list" as to select it there?. Should 5040x1050 be listed in my edit mode list menu for my simulator software to see it?

Or maybe IL2 just does not except this resolution?

Exactly. The 5040x1050 mode is in the 'change display mode' section but my native desktop resolution is only as high as the one I put in the 'edit mode list' which is always lower than the maximum.

So in effect although my windows desktop is showing 5040x1050, the native desktop is 4080x768 because thats the highest I can add in the 'edit mode list'. The SGU therefore only picks up that resolution as the highest and so do all games.

It's driving me mad. Has anybody got their native desktop to display 5040x1050? If so, how!!??

Maybe this has something to do with it ??????.................

The powerdesk wouldn't even offer me that rez until I unchecked the "hide unsupported resolutions" check box on advanced settings -> monitor section of my display.

I'll have to look into this when I get home.

**DANGER DANGER WILL ROBINSON CROSSPOST AHEAD**

OK.... here we go... "thankfully you all have a talented and gifted security agent..."

If your monitor is listed as Plug and Play, it needs to say Matrox TripleHead2Go Edition, if not the games will not run in 5040x1050. This is of course assuming your desktop is currently at 5040x1050.

Right click on the monitor list (i.e. Plug and Play Monitor)
Properties
Driver
Update Driver
Browse my computer for driver software
Let me pick from a list of device drivers on my computer
have disk
browse (to your PowerDesk install directory, usually c:Program Files (x86)Matrox Graphics IncPowerDesk SE)
Highlight GXM.inf
Open
**you may get a pop up asking if you want to Trust Matrox, if so say yes**

This should install the correct monitor listing and allow you to play games in 5040x1050. I just checked COD4 and X3 (my two favorites) and I now have the option.

I hope this helps out the other people having issues.

**EDIT**

I now have the following resolutions listed in the SGU
4098x768
4320x900
5040x1050

This appears like it's going to do the trick. I've made this a Sticky, and I'm going to lock the other threads, and consolidate discussion here.

Just had to say .. thanks ibrin for bringing it all together here..

This advice definitely works. I've tried it on all my game that supported 3840x1024 and they all, without exception, work at 5040x1050. Marvellous.

cool, but...

Post by greyalien007 »

So I can do 3x 1440x900, but if I want 3x 1680x1050 I have to drop the color to 16 from 32. It's super irritating as some programs won't run in 16. Any ideas on how to remedy? I have an xfx 9800gx2 and 3x lg l227wtg 22' panels. I know the system should support it.

I've got it running in 32bit color and my specs are slower then yours, so you should be able to... are you using custom resolutions and are you running at 60Hz or 57? I found that when I tried to go to 60 I could only do 16bit color but once I went to 57 I got 32.

Thank you Cybercrist, you are good! these instructions should have come with the TripleHead2Go Digital Edition Widescreen Resolution Software Download!

Although I am getting all the resolutions in my SGU for optimizing, IL2 Sturmovik-1946 still locks up when selecting any rez over 3840X1024. It must be the game I guess.

I did notice that when I view the SGU "View Cfg" I get this......

;KEYWORDS:
; #MATROXH (Replaced with User selected Resolution Height)
; #MATROXW (Replaced with User selected Resolution Width)
; #RESDEPENDENT._ (Replaced by a value based on the selected resolution)

I wonder what the

Anyone else here fly in IL2?

The only game that supported 3840x1024 that I'm struggling with is Lord of the rings online. It allows me to select the resolution in game but the mouse acts all weird. I have to click a couple of centimetres to the right on any button to make it work.... anyone any ideas?

Do you get the same thing in both the 1680x1050 and 1440x900 resolutions? Maybe it just can't handle super wide? What about the 1440x900 option in Windowed Mode?

Yeah, it's the same in both those resolutions.. It handled 3840x1024 perfectly. At the moment I've got it in 4080x768 which works fine with plenty of AA.

Now you mention it it works in a window at 5040x1050. How strange is that? I can't understand it....

Come to think of it, my native desktop resolution shows 4080x768 even though it's actually at 5040x1050... It seems Lotro is picking up the native desktop res rather than the desired one.... is there any way that I can make the native desktop resolution 5040x1050?

If you are using Windows Vista 64 bit you should contact our tech support department and provide full details of your issue. I believe Vista 64 was a picky case that may require our help to resolve.

Thx,

I run Vista 64 on my system and I have a nVidia GTX 280. I got my desktop to display 5040x1050 but PowerDesk-SE mode list still won't show this res. I followed all the instructions in this thread and still nothing. I originally had 2 ATI 4870 cards in crossfire but the 5040x1050 res is not supported. Now I'm thinking I may just have to wait for a new driver from nVidia to fix this issue.
Any more suggestions or steps I may have missed?
