Diablo 2 - Run in window/WS?
Diablo 2 - Run in window/WS?
Is there any way to run Diablo 2 in a window, or change its resolution at all? Ideally I'd like to run it 1440x900 windowed, but I'd be glad to have anything other than its default of 640x480 FS.

Damn you all.
You know how buried this is in my storage?

I will test this method when I get home tonight.
Hopefully, it won't get me banned by Blizzard, though.

Try offline first. No point getting banned by something that may not even work right.

I'd love to try it if I knew where my D2 discs were. ; ;

Well, I have to admit, when I first tried this according to the steps on the web site, I thought it just didn't work.
But then I figured, it was just due to my using it on Vista x64 so I went upstairs to put the little ones to bed.
To my pleasant surprise, when I returned, my screen had several 1024x1280 and 1280x1024 windowed D2 windows open due to my having launched it several times because they did not come up immediately.
I've closed the ones w/ the wrong aspect ratio and kept my 1 correct 1280x1024 window and will proceed to try playing in single player mode as Tanuki has suggested.
After that, I'll try creating a fresh account so as not to get my main account banned.
Things are looking up!
P.S. The settings I used in each tab were: Common: Checked Us Windowed Mode, Height=1280, Width=1024 (instructions said these are reversed due to the badly translated UI); Window Mode: Directx1-7=checked, rest unchecked; Foreground Control and Direct Input as is (nothing checked).
---
Update:
It created a 1280x1024 native sized window on my desktop, but still scaled an 800x600 within that window up to 1280x1024. So it's not native at all :(; trying different settings.

My guess is it will scale the widescreen ratios with stretching.

Here's the word from the horse's mouth: the D3DWindower is simply just a larger window; it doesn't support any different or larger resolutions. I suppose the purpose was so you could play @ 800x600 in a large window similar to how you play in full screen only in windowed mode.

The method that -does- support a larger resolution, specifically, 1300x700, is considered a hack by Blizzard and -will- get you banned.

Another method of unknown origin or reliability; from the thread discussion, sounds like ban material--if you don't get banned immediately, eventually you will be:

I am a moderator over on Edge of Nowhere, one of our other moderators is currently trying to fix the few bugs with the 2d screens and the belt, He will also be providing more resolutions including widescreen ones such as 1280x800 and 1280x720.

Very nice.
DO NOT use this on Battle.Net though. Any changes to your Diablo II folder will get your account and CDKey banned now.

Hmmmm. Maybe I will try and get a report up.
Diablo 2 - Run in window/WS?
On second thought, I will pass. D3D is still too unstable at the moment and I have no interest in doing it in DirectDraw.
On the bright side this is one if the few pixel-based games that is playable in 1920x1200. Aside from the crippling slowdown that is.
The original JPG screenshot was almost 2mb. 8)
