Just seen some bits about it, The trailer looked really good and so does some of the screen shots!, Abit like BF2 but more street based and the graphics look bloody good!. Anybody else played it yet, Dunno if its widescreen? I would of thought so as its a HL2.

I got the 700MB mod, I think it's garbage.. but with some changes it could be good. It needs crosshairs, the movement needs to be more reactive, as well as many other things.

The graphics looks really good, I have heard that there is an new update coming out for it as they FPS are really bad even on hi spec PC's. Give it a few months and it should be better, Look at BF2 they buggered that up at the start/mid way thought.

Gave it a run today, pretty fun. Reminds me of DoD but with the whole modern warfare theme. And I loved me some DoD...

Sadly, my machine kinda dribbled by; I'm terrified to look outside. FPS drops so damn hard...
I know I need a new machine... ><
Hopefully what you say is true and they'll release some optimizations or something.

I have played abit of it and was not all that impressed, it looks great runs ok on my system (down to 30fps outside though) My main problems with it are its Slightly too realistic, i personally beleave you should have a crosshair while standing still that goes away while when you move (much like CoD2) and i dont like how your gun moves around the screen before your screen starts looking around, i like my gun to always point/aim in the middle and not move.

That's the thing though, they are going for realism. As close as they can, at least. I personally think the current system is fine; I mean, does anyone in real life move and hold their weapon like they were playing Q3/UT? The obvious downside is that you're less accurate, but a big part of the game is learning this mechanic.

I cry girly tears when I walk outside. :'(

Oh the only other thing that ticks me off is that you cant see who you have killed.

I know theres no kill counter, and you cant see when you have killed anyone in real life. But its a part of gaming, and the fun in FPS games is killing people.

Once again, they decided to move from the whole "fragging" theme and put in a truly objective-based game. How many times have you actually planted a bomb in CS?
I would however, like to know who killed me though. I think I deserve at least that much. :O

It is frustrating not only not knowing who you've killed, but also who got you!!!! I agree that it does add to tyhe realism.

I say no to crosshairs!!! The game is awesome without them!

So I've been playing this since it came out and loving it. Really saw it as something revolutionary. Minimal HUD, fast moving maps, no fancy sounds and a lot of teamwork.

Most of that has all but disappeared. The graphics were ratched down for a more universal playability, the choke points have been discovered by players, servers are starting to put CS effects such as sounds and kill-tells as well as rampant spawn camping. Scared most of the serious players away leaving a LOT of empty servers for this mod.

A topic discussing why players were leaving reached 14 pages on the insurgency forum before it was locked.

So whats the upside to all this?

It made me start up Americas Army again. I'd been patching the game all along, just not getting any time with it.

Wow!

Just spent about 7 hours playing it, the new maps, great gameplay, best of all fairly mature players!

I thought I was the only one who found that stuff annoying. Where are the "pure" servers! Every server I join is like Unreal Tournament; if I wanted to play that I'd fire it up. :

Next patch is supposed to be real nice.

Patch News
We're working hard on a patch that is going to be released as soon as possible, with the next update to follow. We don't know if it's going to be 1.2 or something else yet, but here is what it's currently looking like:

Added Overhead Map feature
Added Commander Promotion feature (commander is no longer a class, but instead is an earned responsibility)
New Team/Squad Selection Menu with player customization and weapon selection
Improved linux server support
Reduction of client-side crashes
Team autobalance
Measures against TK'ing and spawn camping
Objective capture requirements and times tweaked due to popular demand
Improved navigation (people should know where to go, what to do, a lot easier)
Improved damage model
Lowered player viewheight so players cant hit you when completely concealed
Various map improvements and optimizations
Spectator improvements
Fixed M203 issues
Fixed various exploits
Fixed various small bugs
Many of you have been asking for an ETA and that's not an unreasonable request if you're dealing with a commercial product. However, this mod is being made entirely by a crew of volunteers and being given away for free. As such, they're not required to be at their PC working x hours a week on it and other things take priority. They're all as enthusiastic about playing insurgency as you are, so you can be sure that they're eager to get the next update out and improve everyone's gaming experience.

The level of activity I see behind the scenes here is huge, the operation is organized in a professional manner and there are sensible systems in place to move development along. We know it's frustrating having to put up with some of the bugs. What I'll say is this: it takes time to fix things properly. We want the next update to be a success and that means we have to get it right. Your insmod gaming isn't going to be improved by a half-finished update.

Here are some things we plan on addressing in future patches after the one we're currently working on:
Continuation of bug fixing and gameplay tweaking/improving
Focus on rewarding players for capturing objectives and following orders
Focus on improving league support
Tutorial/Training map
New and improved weapons, maps, and other content
Global stats system
Improved interfaces
Improved voice communications
Improved commander system
Improved gore, explosions, and other effects
Introduction of experimental sound-immersion features
Continuation of the optimization process
New gametypes revolving around light infantry vehicles and explosives
New theater of play (still being brainstormed)

A commercial developer would have a hard time filling a patch list like that. Good luck to whoever. :)
