Please Help with Half life 2

Post by corvette »

Hi, this is my first post 'cause I'm a widescreen newbie since last month I changed my old 15" HP for a new 22" Dell and I have a little problem with Half Life 2. I can get it to work fine in 1680x1050 fulscreen, it gets strechted, this also occurs with the other resolutions. But if I choose "run in a window" it looks fine. Thats why I ask for your help, if there is something I´m missing. Could it be that I didn't reinstalled the game after the monitor change?.
Thx in advance.

Source games should have an 'Aspect Ratio' drop down box in the 'Video Options' menu, switching it to 16:10 should correct the stretching.

Thanks Rage but it doesn't fix the problem neither. I tried all choices with no results at all, I'll try reinstalling the game.

What resolution are you running your desktop at? What kind of cable do you use to drive your monitor? Have you installed the drivers?

Make sure there's no resolution already specified in the game's launch options, that might override whatever you choose in the main options.

It may also be a driver problem... which graphics card and driver set are you using?

Ok my desktop resolution is 1680x1050, my card is an oldie NVIDIA GeForce FX5200 with latest drivers. The cable is a standard vga (The card doesn´t come with DVI plug) and the other games run great (wahrhammer DOW, Warcraft III, PES 6,etc).
Thxs.

You really need to upgrade your card if you want to use a nice monitor like that...

Bump: looking at the detailed report here, apparently HL2 can be set to any widescreen resolution, but when I try, the only 16:10 resolutions I can choose are 1680x1050 and 1920x1200 (my monitor's native res), and the only 16:9 resolution available is 1600x900. No sign of 1280x800, 1440x900 etc. Is this a bug or my own screwup? (Fully updated copy of the game)

Actually no, which is weird -- and I think you're right, on another forum I was told this was the exact issue! Could it be a problem with nVidia drivers, or does my monitor just not like those resolutions?

If you can't do it in desktop then you won't be able to do it in a game ...
There used to be a way of getting custom resolutions with the nVidia drivers but this function hasn't worked in drivers of late ... but I haven't tried recently.

Check the spec for your monitor to see if it can do the res ... google ...
