developer or publisher (I forget who replied back to me, I think the latter)

said the game simply does not support 2560x1600, for whatever reason.

That sucks man. I just re-installed (with 1.1 patch) this on my shiny new machine (quad-core/8 gb ram/8800 gt 512 mb/vista x64 sp1) just to see how it performs. I like to go back to my old archive of games after I update my machine. :roll:

I'm quite surprised to see it actually start -- a four year old game on a fairly modern system (my next system is going to be six or eight cores cpu and maybe dual gpus like ati x2 series as long as everything fit in a sff case :P ). It even recognizes my xbox 360 gamepad (not native; this was before xinput api exists). Plus it recognizes that this is a 64-bit machine and uses the 64-bit .exe:

"..Riddick EFBBSystemWin64_AMD64SbzEngine.exe"

Awesome. I got a laugh out of the shader model 2.0++ option -- "Recommended for GeForce 6 Series and future hardware..." That's two generations old from what I have now! :shock:

I was pleasantly surprised to see that it allows you to even select 2560x1600 (I have a dell 30" lcd display). But, I can't seem to get it to display correctly. Everything looks warped. I tried all the different options (normal, 4:3 -> 16:9, 16:9 -> 4:3 etc.) but none of them look right.

During the intro sequence that uses the in-game engine, the camera is pointed to what looks like in the upper left corner of the screen. So, you hear characters talking but the camera isn't pointed at them. :lol:

Then after you get off the ship (the part where you break johns neck). The view looks skewed somehow -- kinda like looking through a fishbowl. That's as far as I've gotten. I tried it in windowed mode and still same fishbowl look.

On conclusion, the engine behind this game is pretty impressive even after 4 years and several generations of tech have passed. I'm very much looking forward to the next riddick game from starbreeze on the pc in 2009. Can't wait! :D

My system spec:

quad-core q6600 2.4ghz
8 gb ram
8800 gt 512 mb
vista x64 sp1

== Supported Resolutions ==

The game ran successfully at 1280x720, 1280x800, 1360x768, 1440x900, 1680x1050, 1920x1080, 1920x1200.
The game did NOT run properly at 2560x1600.

Beyond a 2048-pixel display width, the whole 3D scene gets heavily distorted and the player's view is off-centered, rendering the game unplayable.

== Surround Gaming Support ==

EFBB supports triple-screen ARs natively with Hor+ gameplay, but the usual surround resolutions can't be used because of the low max display width. Surround resolutions are basically limited to a 1920-pixel width (3x 640). 'Faux' TripleHead or low-res multi-monitor modes are your only options.

Hor+ gameplay, stretched HUD, pillarboxed FMVs, Hor+ cut scenes.

1920x600

Calculated grade: B+

Stretched HUD is a blemish.
