Battlefield 2 Resolution Woes
For whatever reason, I cannot choose a resolution higher then 1152X768. I know for a fact the game supports higher, but it does not give me the choices it should.
I'm using an Nvidia 6800Ultra with the latest drivers, with a dell 20in widescreen display.
Any ideas why I can't choose a higher resolution?

Do you have the Dell inf loaded for the monitor? Make sure your LCD screen doesn't say 'plug and play' monitor in your display settings.
I have the 2005FPW and I can't get BF2 to run 1280x800 unless I use PowerStrip and add a custom display of the same resolution.

For some reason, the game does support many popular resolutions. You cannot change the .com file since it will crash to desktop. Only solution is to change the shortcut to launch the game in the desired resolution:
"C:Program FilesBattlefield 2BF2.exe" +menu 1 +fullscreen 1 +szx 1280 +szy 1024
change the url to your bf2.exe.

you can get widescreen by going into the run line and changing +fullscreen to +widescreen.
I tried WS for a while, but everything is stretched. I switched back to 4:3 even though I have a widescreen monitor.

I have the Dell 20.1 widescreen display as well. If you don’t have the resolution you want in settings/display properties you have to add it in under the geforce tab Screen resolutions and refresh rates / add
I setup up a resolution of 1400x1050 so it uses the full vertical with a 4:3 format. Sucks not to have native 1680x1050 but oh well…
"X:Program FilesEA GAMESBattlefield 2BF2.exe" +menu 1 +fullscreen 1 +szx 1400 +szy 1050"

Once again, we have to tinker around with an .exe string or edit an .ini or launch file. Why oh why do game MFR's not allow the settings in the game for WS? Half Life 2 should be the example to follow.
Sorry folks, just HAD to vent.

I am SO with you Omega Man. I cannot for the life of me understand why developers don't get into the new millenium with widescreen. For the last 5-10 years, I have not purchased a single DVD movie that was NOT widescreen. Widescreen is everywhere when it comes to "non-gaming" entertainment (movies, DVD, plasma/DLP TVs, etc.) and now computer monitors are really heading that way. The console game developers get it, even though their base audience is still largely on 4:3 TVs.
I cannot imagine adding more resolution options (with related FOV) adds that much more to a development budget. Leaving a gamer to "hack" resolution settings in a command line (KILL DOS DEAD FOR GOD's SAKE) is asinine. Finally, a developer like Valve gets it right in Half Life 2. Just include a simple video option for Aspect Ratio (4:3, 16:9, 16:10) and custom resolutions (1920X1200, 1280x1024, or wwwwxhhhh).
Rant # 2 over.

Touche HoodoGuru, Touche. Maybe we'll get lucky and the powers in question will read this thread.
