BattleZone (Activision 1998) Solution?
I realize I'm probably shooting into a dark expanse with this one but...
Would anyone happen to know if there is a hacked EXE for BattleZone (the 1998 Activision FPS/RTS hybrid) that allows it to support custom resolutions beyond 1024x768? There is no config file for the game besides "render.cfg" (which only has an option to enable resolutions up to 1024x768), so I'm pretty sure the resolutions are hard-coded into the EXE. My Google searches for a widescreen hack have come up empty, so I was hoping you guys could tell me definitively whether or not one exists.
Thanks. ;)

BattleZone (Activision 1998) Solution?
I'm starting to think I sound like a broken record when I say this, but to the best of my knowledge, there is no widescreen solution for this. :(

BattleZone (Activision 1998) Solution?
For a game that's 7 years old? I doubt it. I'm not a coder by any means, but if I knew anything about hacking an EXE for a DirectX-based game, I'd dive in myself. Is there some kind of a tutorial or article anywhere about modifying game EXE's to support widescreen?

BattleZone (Activision 1998) Solution?
Not really. Your best bet is to find a hex editor, and use it's help files, forums etc to get a feel for how to change things. Then make a backup, and test things out. :)
And I didn't mean the developers, I meant someone in the widescreen community. It's a possibility - you've just said that if you knew how, you'd try. ;)

BattleZone (Activision 1998) Solution?
Well, I could not make heads or tails of anything in the EXE by using a hex editor. I wouldn't even know where to start as far as adding a custom resolution or changing the FOV. :(

BattleZone (Activision 1998) Solution?
Is there somewhere to make a request of one of the expert EXE hackers that an EXE hack be made? Or do they only do hacks for recent games?

It's not just for recent games, it's more a matter of being able to find the game somewhere. :)

Topic bump...
Aside from the nearly 3 year old topic bump, I am asking if there has been any updates in setting Battlezone for Widescreen.
Also, I wonder if there is any way of doing the same for Battlezone II. I am an avid player of both games, but if I must I'll play them on my old computer if they are unable to be ported to a widescreen monitor.

Re: BattleZone (Activision 1998) Solution?
After messing around the last couple days trying to add widescreen support to this game (with limited success), I Googled it and discovered that Ken Miller, one of Battlezone's original programmers, has recently begun spending some of his time writing new builds that not only solve some compatibility problems, but even add widescreen support.
You can track the progress and download the latest builds on the Battlezone1.org forums. It certainly isn't flawless (many of the higher resolutions will crash the game when returning to the menu for example), but it's still a must-have for anybody who's a fan of this game.
Anecdotally I can confirm that 1440x900 does crash when returning to the menu, but 1280x720 does not.
