HOW THE F*** DO YOU CRACK AN EXE FILE?

Hey everyone, I'm new obviously. I've been reading up on widescreen stuff on this site, and just downloaded a patch on NFSU and NFSU2. However, it says that you need a 'cracked exe' for it to work. I searched on this site, google'd it, and asked everyone i know. Nothing. What does it mean to 'hack an exe file' and just how the s**t am I supposed to do it?

usually cracked exe refers to a program executable that has been modified so that the copy-protection (CD check) is bypassed.. which should be legal if you legitimatly own the game. Personally I crack every game I own because swapping CDs all the time is annoying.
