Far Cry has "bad" widescreen support.
I've found out that selecting a widescreen resolution actually gives you a SMALLER viewing area. Not a single degree of horizontal FOV is gained, and a few degrees of vertical FOV are lost. I can provide screenshots if necessary.

no need to provide some screenshots, there are allready some on this forum:

Really? Maybe it might be a good idea to compile a list of games that have that problem. I'd say it's at least as bad a problem as stretching.
I just found out that Half-Life via Steam has this problem too. I really hope that Half-Life 2 has proper widescreen support.

HL2 has a real WS support, but as killercheung says, many games has a "bad" WS support like all game based on the Unreal Engine (expect the UT2004 engine) like Postal 2, XIII, Amercian Army 2, etc...
but this FOV Hack from Racer_S is very cool !

the address is http://24.195.1.241
the http://tocaedit.com address should start redirecting there soon (could take upto 24 hours)
Thanks Racer_S ! and thanks for your patch too
What is the screen you play on ? :D
Far Cry has "bad" widescreen support.
I have a Dell W1700 Widescreen LCD TV

Kinda small i think, its only a 17" screen... but i couldn't pass up the deal I got on it.
Currently I'm using a Chaintech GeForce Ti4600 for the Digital Display.
I plan on upgrading soon to a 5900+ FX card i think.
