Dragon Age: Origins

You can go on assuming all DLC is content ripped from the game and content not worth playing Cranky, but the only person who suffers for it is yourself.

All gamers suffer when content is ripped from the game and sold separately. Those who don't buy the DLC get less of a game. Those who do buy it are paying extra. If anything, I'm suffering for it less than anyone else, since I wait until it's all out there and sold at a reasonable price.

This entire thread frankly reads like "cranky old PC gamer fears change."

It's not that we "fear" change. It's that we value things that industry trends are moving away from so that they can squeeze a few more bucks out of the impulse buyers.

Right now, I can re-install both Baldur's Gate games, with one expansion pack each, and play them back to back with almost 100% of the content that was officially developed for the game. 10 years down the line, this will still be possible. Will it be possible with Dragon Age? Or will historians be stuck with a game where NPCs talk about side-quests that are long unavailable?

Now, anyone care to talk about Dragon Age again?

(HINT)

Give me about a week...I'm holding off installing until the new vid card arrives. This is not easy, I have a copy or Dragon Age sitting on my desk....

1. I accepted Steam and DD with my arms wide open
2. I accepted the concept of 'DLC' coming to PC games.
3. I accepted episodic gaming (pre-purchased SIN Episodes: Emergence and purchased all HL2 episodes on release day)
4. I accepted Borderlands fail networking and need for a third party non-developer involved software to play co-op with my friends despite handing my money over for their product (Gameranger FTW)

Pretty sure I'm not "fear"ful of change.

I own a handful of games with Tages, and Bioshock and Crysis and a few other nifty games with the terrible versions of Securom... and GTAIV with it's brilliant Rockstar 3rd party app. I even bought SSFIV and endured the joy of Games for Windows Live.

So yeah...

If that means I'm a conservative bastard that hates change and wants my Q3A servers to run forever then sooooo be it...

I accept your interpretation of my gaming habits.

Now you accept the fact that your argument is going around in circles... you can't say "Ooooo people suck and don't realise DLC is great" and then not accept that most "DLC" is MP "DLC" (map packs etc.) on the consoles and most SP "DLC" content is pretty much all rubbish. If it's not it's generally either included in the game, released a long time after (and is really just a glorified expansion pack) or is removed during the development process for the specific purpose of making more money post-release

If you can't accept that then that's cool. We will just agree to disagree with the motives and reasoning behind things.

Sure if it's an amazing feature that comes out a month post-release and it wasn't glaring obvious that they were going to release it... e.g. random door in mage guild in oblivion... then I'd probably hand over my money for it.

In other news, DA:O is awesome.

Oh desire demon, why are you so...desireable?

lulz. (a bit nsfw)

Warden's Keep DLC was okay. I don't think it was worth $7...maybe 5. Time will tell how much that chest will be worth though, I suppose.

Everything, mate, everything. 8)

Not found backpacks yet. But then, I do pretty much seem to be roaring through this.

Despite my dislike of the DLC situation, DAO is probably my most enjoyed PC game Since Deus Ex...

Check merchants and quartermaster in town. Scroll down on the all item list, they are usually near the bottom.

Spoiler: You can buy 2 at Ostagar from the quartermaster. Once when you first arrive. Once more when you return from your first quest before you talk to anyone else. Everyone after that gets more expensive.

And, yes, can we move the DLC debate elsewhere :P

Because that's the whole point. 8)

Wiz - cheers for that info. :)

I'm probably gonna end up replaying as a mage - my rogue with a warrior slant is doing next to no damage when compared to my mages of equal level... Morrigan is happily hitting for 60 damage on most of her spell attacks, while my physical hits are maybe 15-20... :|

Free mod that gives you a loot chest in the party camp. No need for DLC. Why the flaming hell wasn't a stash included? Why wouldn't they have a chest at camp?

They claimed they had problems trying to fix the stash that they made at camp because it would lose items. They scrapped the idea, but when they came back to make DLC they decided to have another go at it. Supposedly. Guess they should've hired those guys.

Can't really talk about it, I'm not buying it till:
- it loses the ridiculous high prices
- the smoke clears on all the shafted versions that don't come with everything.

High prices? I think I saw the CE on Amazon for like $60, normal for $40. >_>

Someone recommended this site. Seems legit since you actually uses EA Downloader and register the serial with EA and the $30 price is certainly attractive.

That site looks about as legit as a $3 bill. If they aren't selling "recycled" keys, I'll eat my shoe.

But you're right, $30 is attractive... attractive enough that one could easily forget common sense that would otherwise throw up "scam" alerts.

Exactly my point, used to be games were 20 to 40$ including collectors or game of the year or whatever other moniker they decided was the buzz-word du jour.

And amazon.com is useless to someone not in the US by the way.

What level are you using? I prefer 4 for 1920x1200.

Do you mean sensitivity level or profile? Profile 4 right now...still getting used to it. I almost want my cheap little Logitech mouse back, this is like taking a Ferrari to do the groceries... :D

I know I'll get used to it tho...

I don't use any custom drivers. Just the button on the bottom of the mouse. I have found that it should only take an hour tops to adjust to a new speed unless it is just too fast for you to ever handle. But maybe that is just me.

Re: Dragon Age, I saw the box today and it comes with a "character and quest," which is apparently a "15 dollar value." Which I guess means that there is a lite version out there or something. It also came with Mass Effect 2 content, :)

I won't be buying this ATM. Too damn confusing.

Dragon Age (normal version, retail and digital afaik):
full game
Stone Prisoner DLC ($15, quest and ally)
Blood Dragon armor DLC (only comes with new copy?)
Those 2 DLCs are for new copies, so if you're going digital, you'll PROBABLY always get it. >_>
Helps fight used copies, etc.

CE retail/digital
full game
Stone Prisoner
Blood Dragon armor
Warden's Keep ($7)
CE item DLC

Of course, if you got CE retail, you get some physical stuff too, like a cloth map. There are also other item DLCs that came with the game, depending on where you bought it (ie.: Steam gave a ring or something). Might've been a preorder thing. In the end, digitally, DAO+Warden's Keep costs less than CE if you don't care about the 3 items.

So you are saying every purchased game comes with Stone Prisoner?
