Where to get DP-DVI Active Adaptors (& what to look for)

Post by l88bastard »

You are very welcome, I hope you do not end up with both a Dell and an Apple adapter though. Did you cancel your Dell order?

Here is one reason I felt comfortable ordering the small adapter from Circuit Assembly, print in the description stating:

"Please note, because this is a new cable it has not been tested on every possible configuration of PC to Apple Display. If this cable does not work for your particular situation for any reason we will send a complete refund including shipping cost."

Any company that offers a guarentee like that is worth checking out.

I did not cancel the dell yet for a few reasons:

1) I might need two of em.
2) it might arrive before the apple adapter
3) it might work better than the apple (less cables)
4) I can always return it if I don't need it
5) I could always sell one of em for cost to a less fortunate WSGF member if there is a huge shortage of these adapters once more 5870s, 5890s, 5870x2s hit the market.

6) when the 5870x2s hit I may sell my 5870 and I could make my auction more desireable by including the adapter in the sale.

heya guys..

Just thought I'd let you know that I received my accell dual link converter and I am finally running my triple monitor setup...

It took 2 weeks to get the converter via amazon (US to Australia) and the total cost was $180AUD.....Some local suppliers in australia are asking for $270 with 3 week turn around...

Interesting, I didn't think Amazon would ship it to Aus. I ordered one thru Sewell and am expecting quite a wait, when the Due-In-Stock date came, it changed to another 2 weeks down the road.

Might try ordering one thru Amazon again.

EDIT: Just tried it again and no luck, says it cannot ship to Aus. Trying to work out where I am not doing something right here.

However, like everywhere else in the planet, they are not available now!

Right... so usually you see results that contain a few vendors then?

I don't and have never used Amazon and all I saw when I searched was a general Amazon.com response, not multiple vendors that had their own international shipping policies. Would explain the confusion then.

My Apple adapter showed up yesterday, along with the mini dp to DP adapter. It seems to work fine, this is a good alternative if you cannot get a bizlink unit.

I ordered on from Dell, but it looked like it was going to take forever, so I then also ordered one from Apple (with the adapter). Well, the apple one is shipping and I just got an email letting me know that the Dell one is now shipping also. I could sell you one of em at cost if you want to figure out what the shipping would be from my location: Pompano Beach, FL 33062 to you.

5870! Jealous, funds only stretched to a 5850 here, but there could be worse things in life! :)

I live in Croatia, so i cant order from USA 90% of the time.
I've registered to myus.com as recommended by previous poster fauntlaroy.
I paid 10$ and recieved US address and a phone number in my mail, that i can use for filling shipping address required by the seller.

Went on Dell US and bought the adapter online, using the address info provided to me by myus.com

When/if it arives, i will confirm here.

I recieved a mail from Dell and they have shiped the adapter.
Now i'll see if myus.com will play their part.

I live in Norway, and used international checkout via the sewelldirect-site to purchase my adapter. Including shipping and vat I ended up paying almost three times the price, good thing I make a lot :) .

However, the reason for registering is that according to a discussion on norwegian tech site hardware.no and their forums hosted on diskusjon.no (meaning discussion.no), some guy claims that calling the local dell spare part provider and asking for part no XT 625 (dell apparently confirmed this is the active adapter) actually solves the problem living in Norway where this item is "unavailable" by simple means. His total cost including shipping turned out being around 560 NOK (which by the current exchange rate vs $ is less than the common $ 100 mentioned here). My transaction ended up at 1500 NOK :) in comparison...

This link is to the page discussing the matter, elegantly translated using google translator. The post in question is the third from the top, from a guy named MIRACL. <- safe link

The 5850 is still a beast of a card and with the asus bios, I have seen em overclocked to where they are giving the 5870 a run for its money.

I shipped the apple display port and adapter to you today so in a week you should be three screening with the rest of us!

I can't wait! Currently using a GTX275 with a TH2G so enjoying three monitor gaming ATM but am hoping to see a performance increase with the 5850. :D

Just posting for the record, I was not able to get Eyefinity three screens running simultaneously with the cheap adapter from Monoprice.

http://www.monoprice.com/products/product.asp?c_id=104&cp_id=10428&cs_id=1042802&p_id=5969&seq=1&format=2

I tested with 1920x1200 screens, and although doubtful, it might work with screens that are 1920x1080 and less in resolution.

With this adapter hooked up, I did receive the message to enable the third screen, I would need to disable the first or second screen, which is the message I assumed = fail for this adapter.

Dave, if you guys want to give it a shot, let me know and I'll ship it to you.

myus.com did a great job for me. They received the adapter from dell in 2 days and sent it to me the same day. It took just 2 more days for it to arive here in Croatia :o
I really didnt expect the whole deal to be done in just a week.
The cost (customs and delivery) was 50$
I is happy a lot :D
