hum, this driver doesnt work with 9800gx2 -.- well i guess there is no other solution as to wait until a matrox fix is released? the nvidia driver archive got as oldest driver an 175.19 for my card....

Take the .inf from a known working driver and copy the 2 lines relating to the 9800gx2 into it, should work, the drivers are mostly unified and I do that to use the latest driver on a laptop/mobile part which is rarely included.
example:
2 lines from new driver, lines of the GTX 260:
%NVIDIA_GT200.DEV_05E2.1% = nv_GT2x, PCIVEN_10DE&DEV_05E2
NVIDIA_GT200.DEV_05E2.1 = "NVIDIA GeForce GTX 260"
2 changed lines, to detect an NVIDIA nForce 750a SLI as a GTX260
%NVIDIA_GT200.DEV_05E2.1% = nv_GT2x, PCIVEN_10DE&DEV_084D
NVIDIA_GT200.DEV_05E2.1 = "NVIDIA nForce 750a SLI"
I used an example not that I've done but from a .inf I had on this laptop, gaming rig's offline atm.
The first line is the important part, it detects your existing card, 2nd is just so it's name appears correctly.
So you'd take the PCIVEN_10DE&DEV_05E2 part on a working driver for the 9800gx2 and place it say, in place of the PCIVEN_10DE&DEV_05E2 for a 9800GT. Change the corresponding 9800GT 2nd line to name it, but it's optional.
example:

Just google about and see what you can find. Lots of file sharing and IT websites hold copies of old drivers so just keep trying.
The result I sent was just the first one I came across in a google search :)

Well i did in fact manage to install 177.41 with changing the nv_disp.inf but the driver does not activate the higher ws resolutions.
i can see the resolutions in my th2go, but there is a "no" in the column of "supported"...
thanks alot for your advice, i will wait a little and keep reading here, hope that sometime this will be fixed. tried out the 177.41 with changed inf, the 175.19, 175.16, 178.13, 178.24, 180.42.
well there are some other i could try of the 174.xy but i am a lil sleepy of this installation marathon. maybe later :) so ill play at 3840*800 for a while :S

Thanks for being a pain in their butts :lol: Hopefully they've taken good notice that the "new" GXM they sent you doesn't help at all, so they're working on a real improved/fixed version of the software.

I'm be surprised if Matrox didn't have one high-end setup running Vista64 with 8GB, Tril-SLI, etc.
I mean - to use these resolutions, you really need a monster rig anyway to push all those pixels. That's pretty much their target market.
Anyway, are there any performance advantages from the 180.43's, aside from Physx?

Please look at http://www.widescreengamingforum.com/node/9684#comment-178759 and see if you can replicate. If so this thread should be renamed as its very misleading!
Regarding the 180 series, lots of SLI fixes, games optimisations and part of the new generation of NV drivers, so yeah, lots of advantages!

1. GXM zaps my custom res (the 5040x1050 one) upon every bootup. Deleting GXM fixes it, but then I lose my bezel mgmt. :(
2. 5040x1050 is still not selectable as a res in games :(
3. 5040x1050 still does not appear in the Modes List of GXM. :(
If *anyone* has been able to solve these glitches, then please post up what you did!

Well, just got my new system setup, and things appear to be going good.
I'm running Windows Vista Ultimate 64bit, Nvidia GTX 280 with 180.48 Drivers.
Installed PowerDesk, and of course 5040x1050 is not available, but I can easily add it as a custom res as stated in other threads.
Updated my monitor driver to be 'Matrox TripleHead2Go Digital Edition'.
To stop PowerDesk from deleting my custom res after every bootup, I modified
1) C:Program Files (x86)Matrox Graphics IncPowerDesk SEDeviceInfo.ini (Search for CUST_MODE, replace with CUST_MODE_2)
2) C:Program Files (x86)Matrox Graphics IncPowerDesk SEGXM.inf
Add semi-colons in front of the following lines, as so:
;[TH2GODE.AddReg]
;HKR,,MaxResolution,,"5040,1200"
;HKR,"MODES4320,900",Mode1,,"30.0-120.0,30.0-120.0,-,+"
;HKR,"MODES5040,1050",Mode1,,"30.0-120.0,30.0-120.0,-,+"

I have finally dived into the Vista pool, with new hardware as of today. i7/920, 6G ram, EVGA x58 board, GTX280/dTH2G.
Brand new install of Vista Ultimate x64. Downloaded the 180.48 drivers from NVIDIA and the 2.04.00.011 GXM from Matrox.
The Matrox install created six new modes in the custom resolutions section of the NVIDIA control panel, but three appeared to be duplicates of the original three. The 5040x1050 was at 16bpp tho, and had weird settings - I have three Samsung 2253LW monitors, and they were reporting a rate of 51Hz, although the res in the CPL was indicating 57Hz. It would switch to that mode, and the monitors would display it, but after a few seconds they would each randomly lose the picture and display the Samsung "optimal at 60Hz" box, with it moving around the screen - as if it were redrawing it over and over. If I hit the source button on the monitor it would bring the pic back for a few seconds (switching to analog then back to digital) then back to the dialog box.
I took the info from the other thread on setting up custom resolutions, deleted all the resolutions in the CPL and started with that info. The CVT reduced blank idea with the pixel clock was crucial, thanks to whomever posted that info.
Setting up with manual parameters my monitors are now reporting 59.4kHz 56Hz and appear to be stable. This is a great great GREAT site, and thanks for all the info posted here. :)

I'm hoping to tweak those settings more to get 59.9 or 60.0 kHz and get rid of that OSD message :-)

Nigel solved my issue with this, here are the steps to resolve:
***WARNING: PERFORM THE BELOW AT YOUR OWN RISK.***
(We have no idea what might happen if you enter wrong values etc so be carefull!).
Samsung 2253BW 5040x1040 no OSD warning message settings:
Note: This was performed using 180.48 Nvidia drivers and 2.4.0.11 Matrox GXM (PowerDesk-SE). Video cards are 3 x Nvidia 8800GTX's running in Tri-SLI on Vista64.
1. Right Click on Desktop and select 'NVidia Control Panel'.
2. Under the Display drop down mention on the Left, select 'Manage Custom Resolutions'.
3. Select 'Create', put in 5040 (on the Horizontal value) and 1050 (Vertical).
4. Change GDI Refresh to 60 (this is the big change thanks to Nigel, used to be 57 as per other threads), bits per pixel 32.
5. Then click on 'Advanced'.
6. In the Back-end Parameters, Timing Standard drop-down box and change it to 'CVT Reduced Blank'.
7. Then select 'Manual' from the Timing Standard drop-down box.
Setup the Manual timing as per below:
Horizontal Front Porch: 64
Vertical Front Porch: 3
Active Horizontal Pixels: 5040
Active Vertical Lines: 1050
Horizontal Total: 5376
Vertical Total: 1068
Horizontal Sync width: 64
Vertical Sync width: 4
Horizontal Sync polarity: +
Vertical Sync polarity: -
Horizontal Scan Rate will likely show 60.88
Pixel Clock will likely show 319.7500
8. Click on 'Test' and you should get perfect 5040x1050 video with no OSD message.
9. Click on OK to save those settings.
10. You may need to go back into Nvidia Control Panel and change to this newly created custom resolution (5040x1050 60hz).
Your Samsung 2253BW should show the following on the Menu OSD:
Digital
62.7kHz 59Hz NN
1680x1050
Enjoy! No more "Not Optimal" message.
