Huge Digital distribution thanks giving sale!

Post by StingingVelvet »

Mirror's Edge, Riddick and Call of Juarez BiB are all great games and well worth those prices in my opinion. Unfortunately I have them all.

Might get Riddick to have a digital version.

You know, I was close as all hell to buying KOTOR, even though I have it physically. I found myself almost saying, "well it's on steam, so screw the physical media, I could give that away as a gift..."

I tend to rebuy games on Steam when they are under $10... that's both to have an easy access version and to support PC gaming and Steam in general.

Plus when they're older titles, like KotOR, I would like to think it fosters more rereleases of older classics on Steam, many of which I do not own anymore.

I got KOTOR and it told me my drivers files are from incompatible versions of the Nvidia drivers. And never launched. Not. Happy.

Old games often require minor tweaks to get working you know. KotOR works fine on my nVidia powered rig.

Out of the THQ Complete Pack, neither Red Faction nor Red Faction 2 work for me. Red Faction won't even load, and Red Faction 2 loads, but then locks solid in the menus. Apparently this is something to do with having a DX10 or DX10.1 compliant GPU. So that's two games where Steam fails. Good Old Games would have had that working, like the do Freespace 2 et al. And Pure Faction is not a fix, so don't say it is. Poor showing, Volition, THQ and Valve.

That said, the THQ complete pack got me multiple games I've been thinking about getting (Dawn of War 2, Saints Row 2, the two Company of Heroes addons and Red Faction Guerilla) for less than Dawn of War 2 would cost me. So I can't complain too loudly. Just annoying that RF2 won't work.

And I officially hate Games for Windows Live even more than I did. Bah.

Red Faction and Red Faction 2 both work with easy tweaks that are in the Steam forums. Old games often require such tweaks, I don't know why you didn't automatically look for them.

Red Faction is still fun today.

Direct2Drive is now doing a "24 games til Christmas" thing with a new game deal everyday.

Today's is Mirror's Edge for $5, echoing the Steam deal the other day.

Nice. Another tab to leave open in FF for the next month. ;)

The industry has realized that weekend deals/madness sales/holiday specials/etc. will entice far more money out of my wallet than confronting full MSRP all the time. I will buy more of what I want, more for my friends/family, and even things of just passing interest when the price is right.

I looked for fixes. I found 'fixes'.

The stated fixes don't work for the RF2 issue I'm having.

I'll agree that Red Faction is still fun. Although I usually had more fun in the 'glass house' tech demo than in the actual game itself. :)

Both fixes worked for me with your issues, on Vista and now Win7, so... get crackin! There is a way.

Today's D2D sale is The Witcher EE for half-off.

Yeah, I'm sure there is, I just need to spend some time actually digging around the guts. No inclination to do that right now. ;)

I'll have a look at that. Several games on there that I want to play again but they just don't like Windows and/or Vista....

Almost every game on GOG can work on Win7 64 bit perfectly using "home made" solutions. I think the number of games they actually had to do work on to get running is only a handful.

I've been unable to get Descent 1/2/3 to play nice with XP upwards (in the case of 1/2) or Vista upwards (in the case of 3) admittedly, I didn't try very hard, but as I don't have the addon for Descent 3, why not...? :D

That might be one of those with real issues, I never read about that game in particular. Digital versions of these old games are sometimes essential just because I no lonnger have floppy drives!

No, I need to save. But, so many deals. But, not really, because they're making me spend money!
