Many people have tried to ask Valve about it, but one of Valve's policies is to not answer any question regarding hacks of any kind.

I tried getting in contact with fourzerotwo but have yet to get a reply.

Whenever a new version of MW2 comes out, I usually get a lot of emails from people asking for an update. None of these people have ever told me they've been banned because of it, and I use it myself for the cinema aspect-ratio and have yet to get in trouble. It's a risk you'd have to take on your own. I can't give any definite answer.

I updated the beta app some more as well as put up a temporary page to download it all.

http://wsf.imk.cx/

I haven't marked down all the changes since the last release of the beta, but here are some obvious ones that stand out:
[list]
[*]All games from the old Widescreen Fixer are now ported over[/*:m]
[*]There's a new slider in the settings pane that changes the update rate. This slider is only needed for games that use a timer. The only three games within the app to use a timer are Battlefield 2, Battlefield 2142, and Unreal Tournament III. Leave this set to 250 or higher if you're using the other plugins. Eventually I will disable this slider and lock it to 1000ms if a plugin is selected that doesn't need it.[/*:m]
[*]Plugin update checking is working. However, I haven't changed any version numbers within the main application or the plugins, so you won't notice it. I won't start updating the version numbers until it's out of beta.[/*:m][/list:u]

Check it out, see if you can get it to crash, let me know how well it works or if you have any issues. It's getting closer and closer to finalization.

Edit:
I just sent off an e-mail to EvenBalance containing the source code for the entire app and all plugins and asked them if they would look it over, test it out, and let me know how things are. I eagerly await their reply. :)

Hi dopefish,

Absolutely love the tool. I'm using it for MW2 (latest patch). I chose the beta and found a bug. The first time I press * to apply the fix, it applies it, but 'fix enabled' stays on No. I then press * and it says yes but it's actually not enabled. So it's just the wrong way round is all :)

Interesting. I'll check it out.

It may just enable/disable so quickly that it gets confused.

I'll probably do some additional checks so that if the key is held down, it won't keep enabling or disabling it. You'll have to actually press it and release it before it can be enabled or disabled again.

VAC only catches items that effect the .exe or .dlls. Widescreenfixer does neither.

EvenBalance has responded to my e-mail.

They're currently not going to evaluate Widescreen Fixer themselves.

They did, however, give me special instructions on how I can test for violations myself to make sure it's okay.

Can you do the same for VAC? Or has fourzerotwo responded at all?

It does memory injecting tho.

I've tried to get ahold of fourzerotwo. Once on the forum and once via twitter.

So far all is good, though. PunkBuster usually catches more than VAC (in my opinion), and seeing as how it's the same method used with MW2 as it is with CoD4 and CoD:WaW, I don't imagine VAC catching it or doing anything about it.

It would be nice to get some form of official ruling on it, but until then you'll just have to take the risk if you really want to use it.

Just tried MW 2 in MP. I couldn't get it to fix with widescreenfixer. Everything stayed stretched out . Got shot smack dab in the head

Edit: never mind. I'm a stupid Idiot. I had it set to Call of duty. not Call of duty MW 2.

@dopefish:

Could you do me a favor? Please add triplehead support for Battlefield 2 experimentally,
i worked pretty well for me so i want to give a try...

Edit: ok, forget about it!

Now i've seen what you meant with "objects start to disappear..." :(

You actually don't really need the fixer for BF2 anymore. v1.5 added in support for widescreen. It will adjust the field-of-view correctly. Using my app will actually make it more zoomed out than it's supposed to be. I only added support for v1.5 since a lot of people requested it.

No it doesn't - at least not in triplehead mode, that's what i'm talking about.
I will try to use the Fov Hack from Racer_S to find the highest possible FOV before objects start to disappear,
to gt the best triplehead experience... (If it works with BF2 v.1.50)

btw. i have used widescreen fixer in mode "2 x 16:9" in Battlefield 2 for my Triplehead-setup and
some things already startet to disappear - does this mode work correctly in a Dualhead-setup?

regards

Edit:

damned, the FOV Hack from Racer_S does only work with BF2 v. 1.3...

I have the same issue. Graphics disappear with the fix for both BF2 and BF 2142 . It really boring to play on 1 screen.

That's a problem with the way the engine works, so there is no way to get Triplehead working without major issues.

Yeah. This is why in the current stable release I have dual/triple-head disabled for BF2/BF2142. The engine just can't handle it.

The beta version of WSF only has those options there temporarily until I implement a way to limit what shows up per-game.

Ok, I must be something wrong.

I'm trying to get MW2 working at 5760 x 1080 (across 3 x 1920 x 1080 22" Monitors).

The max resolution I can select in the game is 3072 x768 with Eyefinity running.

I have Widescreen fixer 1.66.0 running and selected CoD: Mw2 + 3 x 16:9 Wide Surround. It shows the Game Running as "Yes" but Fix Enabled as "No".

I have the full retail version of MW2, but it runs via Steam.

What am I doing wrong? :?
