Amazing game... it is much more of a pure shooter though, for those who care. I do not mind at all despite being an RPG lover because ME1 always felt like a great open world shooter bogged down by some annoying RPG elements that didn't fit the gameplay, this game feels like an awesome shooter with some awesome RPG elements.

All good.

I'll definitely get ME2, don't know when though... however I must say I did like the RPG elements of ME1
I just hope I'll still get that nice Star Control 2 nostalgia feeling ;)
and I sure hope the audio engine is less picky than ME1...

UPS finally delivered my copy yesterday but did not have a chance to install it till I got home. Installing was fine but getting all the bonus item was a bit confusing and one of the item was a hefty 1/2GB download so it took a while, then it was a bit confusing copying over the savegame from ME1 but at least they put a link to their FAQ on the installer so it easy to figure out. Once you got in game though, it's fun, it's like you never left the ME universe. I just did the initial part of the mission (now on the way to see someone important) since I know that if I continue, I probably would be up all night. :mrgreen:

finished 1 run-through with my taken over adept from ME1 on insanity;
my opinion
PRO
-great characters/stories(especially Tali, Garrus,Thane and Mordin are awesome; the whole problem between Samara/Morinth was pretty intense)
-classes feel completely different to play unlike ME1 (i like Vanguard and Sentinel, although they're pretty hard especially on insane as you don't wanna go melee against those heavy mechs ^^)
-the graphics look really awesome - more lights, more detail, better texture resolutions - really polished
CON
-Shooter elements are just 3rd grade - many other games even older then 1st part made this better; bioware never actually took a look at GoW or Uncharted or or or ...; cover system is broken, switching shoulder perspective would be nice
-Squad-AI .... those guys are stupid as hell, if hit by a blast they don't go back into cover, they hide in front of a cover instead behind it, take hilarious ways to get to a point (sometimes bugging out of the map and reappearing only at the next cutscene); pointing their target/place to go doesn't work in all casess - why not change into NPC-View to control them directly? (Ghost Recon:AW2 had a perfect solution: helmet cameras - don't tell me the guys in 218x or whatever don't know what that is!?
-where are my items(and itemstats)? (2 weapons or so per slot, really ...?),not much customizing imo

overall, id say it's a nicely done story with really good characters, but even less rpg then the first part; so sad that bioware still hasn't learned that 3rd-person shooters have evolved far beyond this point - only sub-average i'd say;
nice story wrapped in weak gameplay - perfect for all the casual-gamers out there;
ill box it after playing through with my renegade shephard

I didn't play the first, what looked like consoly gameplay and the reports of quirky controls kept me away. But I'm enjoying Mass Effect 2. I would prefer a KoTOR style gameplay and the Mass Effect line of games is clearly sprung from a desire to keep doing that kind of game outside the StarWars franchise. Unfortunately the differences in gameplay doesn't improve anything. The story and characters are certainly very good and keeps me playing attentively, it's the gameplay that just doesn't woo me. As a shooter it would rank abysmal even considering its console origin. As an RPG it's actually a bit light and I don't say that just because there's no inventory to juggle.

The narrow FOV is giving me a headache unless I'm fully rested when playing. It's so tight that it even confuses me sometimes when exploring, which makes me feel like a noob. ;) Just a wee bit wider would have been fine. Still, I've been too busy playing to check if tweaks from Mass Effect can be carried over. I would also somehow like to limit the game to stereo sound without having to change the windows setting, but I don't think this licensed engine has such settings.

Well, my copy of ME2 arrived yesterday morning (about 10 minutes before I had to leave for work) and when I got back I was too knackered to bother with computers, so I loaded it up this morning. Enjoyed what I've played of it so far, but I'm finding the aiming system a bit more... picky... than Mass Effects was.

I can't believe you have gone through it all already!! I just finished Mass Effect 1, first play through about a week ago! That's some long play time. Granted I didn't play it every day, but still, you must have just blinkered through the main story line right? Not having a go, just can't believe you've already finished it 8)

This game is a lot more of an RPG than I thought it was at first. The armor options remind me of Morrowind, which is awesome... shoulders, legs, boots, head, etc.. I have this wicked looking headshot enhancing eyepiece on right now that makes me look like a space pirate.

Scanning planets is neat, I like finding surprises.

All in all this is likely the best game I have installed on my PC since God knows what... years and years maybe.

oh yeah, this scanning minigame is neat, totally got me hyped till i had about enough resources; after that i only flew from planet to planet looking for th N7 Missions

and i know, i'm nerding alot when it comes to new games, but next week i'm starting with tests for the next 3 weeks (studying is fun .... NOT :p ) so i had to finish it fast, which i did and now my sleeping time is way off XD

My copy of mass effect 2 came though the door this morning, however, since I only got mass effect 1 last weekend and I haven't finished it yet ME2 is still sitting quietly on my shelf, I'm current at the citadel attack however since I've not even touched disk 2 yet I'm completely unsure as to how far though the game I really am.

Mass Effect only has one disc... so... not sure what you mean there.

And the Citadel attack is the end. It can take 10 hours or 50 hours to reach, depending on how many side quests you do.

21 Hours ish to complete, I worked out what the second disk must be for, I'm from the UK so the version I have is the EU version, disk two must contain multi-region data. ME2 has 2 disks as well.

Bad - Almost done with ME.

Good- Almost ready to play ME2.

Mass Effect's main story is relatively short for the genre IMO.

True, but its a damn sight longer then both CoD Modern Warfare's. And it has plenty of side missions to do as well.

ME2 is 2 discs in the US as well, though judging by the installer one of them doesn't have much on it.

The ones on the Citadel were OK but I found exploring planets with the Mako to be amazingly dull and tedious.

Mass Effect only has one disc... so... not sure what you mean there.

In fact, Mass Effect International Version has two discs. The second disc only holds additional languages besides english.
I wondered exactly the same question a few weeks ago. I installed it in english, never asked the second disc
My girlfriend recently installed it in french, and it needed the second DVD through the initial install procedure ...

Besides just insert it & have a look at the files in there, it's pretty self-explanatory..

French does sound a bit weird by the way with Nihlus voice not being transformed from a normal human voice for example and generally things going a bit too far in the full translation mode (C-Sec renamed for example to SSC or something along this line ... :doh )

edit: bah.. just saw that the question was already answered a few post ago :hide
