Just because it's a reboot doesn't mean they will forsake the original games.
That's kind of what the word "reboot" means. If they didn't want to forsake the original games, it would make a lot more sense to add a "5" to the end.
It's not like you can't go back either.
If the game isn't a proper sequel to the originals, then it's a lot like I can't make it be a proper sequel.
the previous games weren't a continuous series or anything (just chronological), so it doesn't even make much of a difference whether or not they add a '5' to the end.
It's not plot continuity that concerns me. It's being a proper sequel in terms of gameplay.
Also, I will hate having to specify which MechWarrior II I'm talking about.
Sounds like they'll try to make a new patch too, so it can add all content including MekTek Studio stuff as well.
Will it include the Clan and IS Mech Packs too? And what about Mercs, which technically is not an expansion pack?

Let's hope it's all of them. I've never managed to buy the Clan and Inner Sphere Mech Packs, and I really want them. Also... I tidied up a very large collection of CDs/DVDs and now I have
no idea where MW4, Black Knight or MW4 Mercs are... :(

ho I see, well gameplay wise and as I see it, mechwarrior V or mechwarrior reboot doesn't really matter.
Both could be very far from mechwarrior in terms of gameplay.
for example oblivion & morrowind ... similar yet quite different gameplay wise ...
or GTA 1 & GTA 3 ...
the whole mechwarrior reboot is rather to erase previous mechwarrior games history than anything else...
Personally, I just hope we get more of a mech simulation than another lame arcade game aimed at the masses ...
Finally reboot means almost nothing on its own, like "Space Rangers 2 Reboot" has shown us (it's just a big update of space rangers 2)

I've got them. Objectively, they're nothing special - they're like today's crappy DLC offerings that console gamers happily blow $5 on without thinking. It's just that knowing they exist and not having them feels like having an incomplete game, which personally bugs the hell out of me.

Certainly, but "erasing" all previous games seems much more consistent with the latter intention than the former. I'm not saying calling it MW5 would absolutely prove they intend to make a proper sequel, but it would be a token of good faith.
Also, they say it will be on an XBox 360, and I can't really picture a proper mech sim working right on the 360.

Yeah, I'm a little worried that it's gonna be the sort of console port that needs a 360 controller to be playable.
And nothing like any decent Mechwarrior game. :(
...
Are the Mech Packs worth it? From what I remember, they were never released in the UK. Are the extra mechs available in single player? Are they any good? :)

The Mech packs can only be played in instant action and multiplayer, not in any of the campaigns. The Mechs are nice, but overall the packs are kind of a ripoff, even at retail prices, let alone the inflated prices used copies command. I only got them because having an incomplete game bothers me.

:(
If I could use 'em in single player, I'd hunt 'em down.
As I can't... forget it. ;)
