Make sure you manually select the gxm.ing driver so it displays Matrox TH2Go in the properties as this guide.... http://www.widescreengamingforum.com/node/9215

I tried with the 175.19 driver without success.
Then I removed the "Preview DirectX 10" checkbox, restarted FSX and then .... 5040x1050x32 is there. I selected that resolution, put back the checkbox, restarted the game ... 3840x1024x32 is the highest.
So maybe it has something to do with the DX10 in FSX ...

That was it. I now have 5040x1050x32 ... somehow I lost my 2-D panel in FSX though.
EDIT: I rolled the driver back and after many reboots I got my 2-D panel back. I still think FSX is acting funny after this incompatible driver was loaded though. I would stay away from this driver... wait for Matrox to post a newer one on their site.

inteljoc, sorry for sounding dunce, but what or where is the "preview directX 10" checkbox? Is that within the FSX software, or something in windowsnvidia dispay settings?
I have FSX but it is not installed on my puter right now, I will probably be installing it this weekend! I am more interested in IL2 working with the 5040x1050 resolution. I have been thinking that what ever reason FSX does not work with it, IL2 is probably not working for the same reason.

In FSX settings since you have SP2 or Acceleration Pack.
PS: I took the pic from Google images, not from my screen.

Don't forget that you still need a DX10 video card and Windows Vista in addition to FSX SP2 ...

ok, installed FSX delux along with SP2 and the acceleration pack, I have directX10 and am running 2-GTX 8800 SLI with a 3ghz core duo cpu.
I got 5040x1050 to work thanks to all the information from this post! This is a step in the right direction for matrox.
But it is not very smooth, when I change views the monitors go black for 5 to 20 seconds (seems like minutes).
I'll take IL2 at 3840x800 over FSX at 5040x1050 though! Forget that IL2 is a combat simulation, even if you want to fly for a nice pleasant pleasure flight, the graphics are sooooo much better on my system with IL2 and everything just seems to run soooo much smoother, smooth as silk!

Just my opinion that it is the best flight sim ever.
I need to keep working on FSX though, I have not spent enough time tweaking it. I had it running pretty good on my old previous computer..

So you can get the 5040x1050 resolution with the "preview directx 10" checked ?

It's final patch/update was released only a few months ago, even though the original IL-2 is a 2001 title. It has excellent developer longevity.

inteljoc, I got it to work (except for the change view problem) by un-checking the direct X 10 box. :?
also , something that was strange to me.............
while installing FSX, I noticed that an information box had poped up saying that FSX was currently installing direct 9.0c. I assumed it did not actually install it, but it acted like it was installing? If I run "DXdiag" it shows that I am running direct X 10.

EDIT: I got rid of the screen going black by disabling anti aliasing. With antriscopic filtering it still looks nice and smooth, definitely worth getting rid of the problem. I'll watch new nvidia drivers and TH2go updates for this to be resolved but for now I'm stoked!
Running 5040x1050 with a 9800gx2 in SLI mode and FSX runs smooth but like windturbin FSX stutters and the screen goes black anytime I change a view, open the ATC window or incur an action that puts red message text up on the screen like applying toe brakes, parking brake, zoom or pausing the sim. Anyone else experiencing this and have any insight into the problem and a possible solution? Other than this inconvenience FSX at 5040x1050 is great!

Are you guys sure you are getting 5040x1050 in FSX? Could you please confirm that.
Just because the sim pulls up does not mean it is actually utilizing the resolution in game.
To be sure, try setting the resolution to say 3840x800 or 3840x900 and go to cockpit view, see what your FOV looks like.
You should be able to see more of the cockpit using 5040x1050 if it is utilizing it.
I could be wrong about FSX but I know for a fact that IL2 using windows xp acts like it utilizes 5040x1050 but really doesn't.

I would have thought the only way to be sure what resolution is being used would be to take a screenshot and see what size it is.
and ...
I don't have the game but is that really true that you should be more of the cockpit using 5040x1050 if it is utilizing it ... compared with 3840x800 ... ?
Both being 3 x 16:10.

Yup, If you have 3840x800 in your 'Edit Mode List' in the Powerdesk software, vista classes this as the highest res 3x22" monitors can render in directx10 for some reason. In other words, the highest resolution you have in Edit Mode, is the highest you get in DX10 ingame (even though your desktop is displayed at 5040x1050). If you are running in DX10 mode ingame, I can pretty much guarantee it is not at that resolution. Note that you cannot have 5040x1050 in edit mode as it is a native resolution. In fact I am surprised triple widescreen resolutions are available at all in DX10? Are you certain it's not reverting to DX9 mode?
All these problems do not apply to DX9, whether in XP or Vista. Isn't that wonderful.

Hi Paddy,
For IL2-1946,
I can select 3840x800 16:10 in my "edit mode list" and then select 3840x800 in my "SGU game optimizer". By doing this I get 3840x800 in game resolution.
or
I can select 3840x960 4:3 in my "edit mode list" (my computer will reboot and a message shows saying that windows vista is reconfiguring) then if I select 3840x960 in my "SGU optimizer" I get 3840x960 in game resolution.
I can tell that this is true and working because of the extra 160 of vertical view that I get helps my in game FOV. I can see a significantobvious amount more vertically!
This is why I am hell bent on trying to figure out how to get 5040x1050 to work. I would love to get yet another 90 of vertical view for my FOV.
In FSX I can not tell any difference between 3849x960 and 5040x1050. This is why I question if it is working as advertised.
Yesterday I thought if you optimized a resolution from the SGU and the gamesim would pull up, that meant it was working. But after looking a little closer I'm not so sure it actually is.

Khula, Will windows OS let you revert back to an older DX?
Sure would be nice if a Matrox tech person where in on these conversations..
