is there not any way (apart from silly $$$$ 6DP card + 3 Active DP conveters to DVI $$$$ ) that Ati can bring a bigger memory version of the current Gen...

i think given the current timespan for the next range.. the answer is no.. we are stuck

:cheers

Just check this other thread in the ATI forum here. Hexus reviewed a 2GB 5870 from Sapphire. They estimate that it is £60 pounds more than the 1GB 5870. That is going to be in the ballpark of the 5870 E6. If that is true, you might as well go for the E6 and offer yourself future options for expansion to 5 or 6 panels. I did test a single E6 in widescreen and 3x1-L Eyefinity.

Slides from http://forum.beyond3d.com/showpost.php?p=1405660&postcount=5733:

One thing about these slides, they don't tell you the settings used. I have been on conference calls where these graphs were reviewed, and there are no details about the settings used. I test everything at max setting 4xAA/16xAF. I know they don't do that.

Thanks for the info Ibrin, nice to know the correct price area for the 6 is a sensible one.

Roll on those benchmarks... :D

The details about the settings used is in the small brackets next to each game name. They only show if AA/AF was used, no other effects.

Nice review... finally someone who reviewed Eyefinity setups.

Can't wait to see Lbrin's review, it should be even more in-depth given the configurations mentioned earlier!!

Seems at first blush that the 5870/2gb will be the bang for the buck card for 3 monitor setups and down the road we can upgrade to CF when the games need more rendering or we have the extra money to spend :cheers

Anandtech has a review up: http://www.anandtech.com/show/3621/amds-radeon-hd-5870-eyefinity-6-edition-reviewed/1

Almost no benefit for the 2gb even with 3 displays.

Yeah that surprised me...

I expected no change for single monitor resolutions, but I would have thought there would be some change 10%+ for 3x1 or higher Eyefinity setups.

Oh well, I have U2410's , so I want to run them all with DP connectivity so these new cards make it easy for me.

I find it a little bit aggravating that while they do include 5 adapters, you can't use them all at once, and not only that, even if you had 6 monitors, there aren't enough adapters in the box to be able to do 6 monitors out of the box, you need to buy more!

So will Ibrin's review be up today? I'm still interested to see the results but the other bunch of reviews pretty much stole the thunder and told me what I didn't want to hear: no improvement whatsoever at 2GB.

I'm still waiting to hear results from a widescreen enthusiast however. :rockout

your not going to see any improvement unless all the memory i getting used up... most of these reviews are 5760 x 1080.. 5760 x 1200 will actually use alot more memory, so that is one thing.. the other is the game itself as games use more and more memory you'll want 2 GB.. and yes it can make a huge diff in some circumstances such as

It's taking me a bit longer to write that what I anticipated (with the family and the day job as well). Hope to have it up tonight.

No regrets here about getting a vanilla 5870...at least not after seeing the benchmark results.

What intrigues me now is how well the new 5850 2GB from Sapphire might compete with a 5870 in triple-monitor gaming. To me the Eyefinity6 edition is too overengineered for a 3x1 display group but the new 5850 2GB has a great price, lower power consumption, but it also has the increased allotment of memory.
