Far Cry 2
Far Cry 2
Although I feel somewhat guilty, posting in a thread about a game I've not played (and now have zero intention of buying)... However this sense of Déjà vu is over whelming.
I've said it before and I'll say it again, it's all because of those DAMNED CONSOLES! We get stuck with cheapo ports infected with intensely restrictive DRM (seemingly getting worse as each new game appears) and improper widescreen support. Whew!

p.s. hey greylantern :D

Changing the X FOV in either direction seems to completely mess up lighting on lots of objects.
Yeah, noticed strange lighting in various situations. Then, as I was driving down the road with my FOV turned up, one side of the road was pitch black in broad daylight for no apparent reason. So I quit the hack, restrarted the game, and then the lighting worked fine. Hopefully the issue can be reasolved, as I really liked the higher FOV.
16:9 settings
Thanks for the widescreen fix :)
These are the settings I use for 16:9, if anyone wants to try it
1.15 and 1.443
I use the sniper scope to determine FOV and I found this to be a decent setting. (Right click to get the scope and adjust FOV settings until X, Y settings are to your liking, while keeping the scope circular).

The console version's widescreen support is just as bad if not worse because they can't fix it and have to wait for an official patch. :P

Just wanted to say that this works fine with Punkbuster. I was playing ranked matches for a few hours last night with this fix enabled, and I had no problems.
Awesome fix. Racer_S is the man.

It's pretty strange.
That is weird... the trees get lighter, and the rock gets lighter, and a big dark patch forms on the road...

True, but the game is so much more playable with the fix! I am actually finally beginning to get immersed, haha :). Thanks again for the fix.

This could be related to what's actually visible on the screen.
This happens a lot with UE3-based games. UE3 calculates certain lights and other things based on what's visible on the screen. When you start expanding that or adding in more than you could see before, then you're going to change the way the lighting is cast. It can be really awkward at times. Since UE3 uses some more advanced, newer technologies, you can be sure that FC2 is, as well.

I use the sniper scope to determine FOV and I found this to be a decent setting. (Right click to get the scope and adjust FOV settings until X, Y settings are to your liking, while keeping the scope circular).
I tried this for mine at 1920x1080 and it's stretched? In comparison the default was heaps better. The sniper scope was stretched too.

So change the values to your liking. I find it easiset to get your player view level with a vehicles tire and screw about until it's circular. Whi out a measuring device if you have to. Remember that desktop resolution affects the game.
I use 1680x1050 for EVERYTHING and use pretty much use the values Racer_S (*ahem - Paddy) suggested.. it looks fine to me.
Racer_S - what a guy.
Ubisoft - what weiners.

@ Gururek ... all you have to do is tweak it to your liking as mikeh says ... instructions are on the tool.

I've used the scope of the sniper rifle. ^^
Once its becomes a circle instead of an egg, its all set.

His settings are for 16:9. 1920x1080 is a 16:10 res.
I'm using these values for 16:10 - X FOV 1.374 Y FOV 1.15
The scope is round. :)
edit: xfov 1.374 looks even rounder than 1.384
