Far Cry 2

Post by Abram »

Decided to go and grab this ting and install it before i go beddy-byes.

Vert-

Console is ON but there are few commands i could see with the console help feature.

As for config files, i could only find a .xml file created in a MyDocs folder. No ther useful .ini or .cfg files that i could see, Maybe more are elsewhere.

Here be my bench with newly created Nvidia drivers that supposedly offer Far Cry 2 performance boosts that i installed yesterday:

3 runs on farm medium demo.

http://img236.imageshack.us/my.php?image=benchxt5.jpg
(how do i insert image again?)

Using the rig in my sig, everything to highest except 2xaa and "very High" shading at 1680x1050. Better than i expected. Can't wait to get home later and play.

PS - this DRM shit is ridiculous. Ya, it works, but i hate the idea.

My copy arrived today ... shouldn't be out here in the UK until Friday ... anyway ...

FOV is vert- in widescreen ... :(

Red bit is what is missing if you use a widescreen ...

:(

1280x1024 desktop res ... 1280x1024 in game ...

1680x1050 desktop ... 1680x1050 in game ... vert- compared with 1280x1024 ...

It seems to take the aspect ratio from the desktop resolution and the FOV is fixed horizontally to that aspect ratio/resolution ... i.e. vert-

1680x1050 desktop ... 5040x1050 in game ...

5040x1050 desktop ... 1680x1050 in game ...

5040x1050 desktop ... 5040x1050 in game ...

Now that messes with my head ...

I guess that last shot is called "Gun-barrel cam". Sheesh.

I nominate Ubisoft for a Narrow-Minded Award.

As of your post there was a crack. Down with DRM!

Yeah totally ruins the driving (makes you feel dizzy), and there's a lot of driving.

Also it makes you want to holster your weapons... but i couldn't find a holster button. (Maybe i'm stupid?)

Anywho... explains why it felt a bit weird.

Okay noticed some things...

If you open C:usersDocumentMy GamesFar Cry 2GamerProfile.xml in notepad

you can see some settings.

ForceWidescreen = 0, if you change it to = 1 it makes it 16:9 anamorphic just from a 10 second test.

Also i noticed that i'd set everything to very high except for shadows and shaders, except some things were set as medium in here, and my resolution was not listed correctly. It listed 1680x1050 as 800 x 600....

Going to play around with these settings.

I can't wait for the widescreen/triplehead fix. There is a absolutely delicious benchmarking tool, that's just begging me to make a comparison video.

Looks like I'll be putting off playing this until a fix comes out...

God damnit.

Checked out that Ubisoft forum thread and it's nice to see someone from Ubi answering instead of just sitting there dumbfounded.

But I expect action from the WSGF community long before Ubi gets off their asses.

Now i expect the same problem with the new Prince of Persia..but i won't be a big shock, as NO PoP game has native support.

Same here. I don't own a wide screen monitor to play games in cut down screen view.

If the come out with some bs answer that 'we made it that way on purpose' I'll do something....I dunno...not nice.

It doesnt matter what the default is.

Vert- in Widescreen resolutions when compared to 4:3.

Sure, but that implies that 4:3 is the default.

It will want to make people "correct" it to match 4:3, when they should be correcting it to match 16:9.

Way to get the word out, Paddy. Hopefyll with a stink comparable to teh Bioshock wank, this will be remedied.

But.. i'd settle for a hack. I find it really hard to not play this game, it looks like lots of fun.
