BioShock 2 FOV Fix/Hack Needed!

Post by Csokis »

Need a FOV fix for the game. BioShock 2 default FOV is 75(!) and Vert+ 4:3, and can't change the FOV.

[Edit by Ibrin (WSGF Founder) - I wanted to add this comparison to the first post so more people would see it.]

Here are the two pics overlayed to show the crap WS implementation

Hahahaha jesus christ. Those stupid bastards must have fetal alcohol syndrome or something. Started as a support group, them "blossomed" into moron developers.

Sarcastic applause to you, 2K.

They specifically mentioned the game was vertically locked to 75 degrees.

That is most definitely not the case.

However, it's not exactly locked horizontally, either. The game scales both vertically and horizontally.

One thing to note, though, is that it's not always like this. Changing resolutions, I managed to get the game to stay vertically locked with every aspect-ratio, but then I did something that broke it and now it's always Vert+.

It seems finicky.

Wow.. it's like we all went back in a time warp. Are they seriously retarded over at 2k or something? One of the main causes of uproar about their first (overhyped) game and they go do it again.

This time I won't be spending hours on the 2k forum attempting to teach them basic coding. I did that with the first game and got nothing but abuse from the fanboys (who I was trying to help - well proper WS support helps everyone as we know).

2K, no matter what country, are at the top of the ignorant developers list.

I've never seen anything... quite like this before.

It's a little bit country, and a little bit Rock 'n roll... :?

If I go from 4:3 to 16:10, I gain some HOR, but lose some VERT.

Wasn't this game supposed to be locked at 75º Vertical FOV? :nudgenudge

I'm currently experiencing a bit of an EDID/DDC signalling problem over my cables (not the first time), but even if that means 1600*1200 gets auto-horizontally expanded to 1920 on my box, that shoudn't equate to noticeable vertical contraction when I switch from 1600 horiz actual to 1920 actual...

This isn't right... there's something wrong here.

Looks like VERT- and HOR+ to me, a bit better than VERT- only but still not perfect. How was Bioshock 1?

what is very interesting is since this is vert+, if u set it at say 1280x1024, you actaully see the insides of the big daddy's helmet. something extra that the x360 crowd does not see at all since it is chopped off.

At the same time, even if someone does triplehead properly, it will probably be all black anyway because of the helmet

in the options menu, you can turn off the helmet.

2K Elisabeth posting on the 2K Forum :)

Hey guys,

I am compiling a complete list with a nifty screenshot for you, but in short: Yes, there's a problem, yes, a fix is on the way, yes the view will expand horizontally for you widescreen gamers.

I wanted to let you know as soon as I could - so stay tuned for the details.

Maybe this means we'll get a wider default view.

The 360 version is comparable to the 16:9 version of the PC. (Which makes sense, as they share the common default).

However, I think with BioShock 1, that when they gave you an option to lock the vertical FOV, that it actually made the view wider than what 16:9 even was on the console, which was great because PC gamers sit closer to the screen. So I'm hoping that them providing a fix for it will indeed give you a wider view than 16:9 on the consoles.

well, i kinda hacked it but it still needs alot of work. i used FOV of 110 here, but it only affects what you see, not the weaponview itself. also as you can see the HUD is horribly stretched.

zoom also breaks it and u have to set it again,.... i wonder if racerS or dopefish can make a tutorial cuz i know their methods are much better than mines :) mine is so ancient. im sure somehow i have to find and change the value that connects the way resolution and FOV is shown. here, all i am doing is hacking the FOV itself which the engine will change all the time so it doesnt work well.

Might be a long shot but can you bind your hack to 'walk' key, that was done in the past so that after the FOV reset it was sort of a non issue as you are always hitting 'w' anyway.

I really hope someone makes an FOV fix, but until then how did you manage to change the FOV fuc847? A stretched HUD is a perfectly fine tradeoff for not getting motion sickness.

Yes, Workaround! :D

1360x768, default 75 FOV:

1360x768, set 91 FOV:

Go into application data... the usual (i'm in a rush so follow one of the links if you don't know where to find it)

then just bind 'SetFOV 87' (or whatever YOU want) to a spare key

Also to have it walking keeps the FOV at 87 (or whatever) just bind it to the walk key

W=walkforward | SetFOV 87

everytime you zoom/stop zoom and it resets to 75 you just walk forward instead of hitting a seperate key. YOu may even be able to bind it to the zoom key toggle so it will reset to your custom fov.

It's not a full fix but I guess it beats that terrible headache 75

SRSLY??/

After the way people raged about the widescreen fail in the first one, they thought exactly the same fuckery would now be perfectly acceptable?
