Eyefinity setup question (vga)

Hello everyone,

Soon i'm going to buy a new gfx card (5970)
And at the moment im running 3 monitors with TripleHead2go.
I have 3 vga screens (22") with native res of 1920x1080.
Now my question is will eyefinity work with the following cable and adapter and will i be able to use my native res of my monitors? :

I understand that there are DP>VGA adapters for sell but i've tried to look here in Holland and there is just none.

So what do you guys think? Will this work or will i get the blinking problems?

everything I have read stated you needed a powered Display port to DVI adapter.
I went with

and it has worked well for me it was just plug and play with windows 7 and I am running 3 I Inc 28" LCD's two DVI and one using the display port adapter

I'm not sure of the specifics, but i think hat the DP > DVI cable also moves an analog signal as well as the digital. This needs the external power to push / create the analog signal.

A DP > VGA just has the analog signal and does not push a digital, so it does not need extra power.

Also, DP > HDMI pushes only a digital signal and does not require extra power.

The only need for a DP > Active DVI is as such, when you would like a digital signal to DVI.


At low resolution a DP > VGA signal will do great. 1920 x 1200 and below. Anything higher then that and you will start to loose a lot of video quality, it will look grainy and harder to see, loss of crisp detail.

I would only get a DP > Active DVI if you planed on going higher then 1920 x 1200. As the active DP > DVI adapter will continue to give you crisp detail up to 2560 x 1600.

Thanks for your time explaining my question.
This helps alot. I am not going to buy 3 new monitors since these i have now are like 4 weeks old. Just not DVI.
Wich isn't really a problem.
I'm gonna give the cable with adapter a go and see how it goes :-)

That cable won't work for analog. It doesn't have the nessesary pins needed for analog signals. :(

After reading that page i have found the following wich should work then :

Adapter DP > DVI-I : http://kabeltje.com/displayport-naar-dvii-adapter-p-1559.html

Wich is Connection: DP 20pins - DVI-I 24+5pins female.

Then i just need a normal VGA > DVI-I adapter and it should work i guess.
