Hm...... keyword: "of the decade" which nudges out a lot of 1998/1999 (FO2, Planescape:Torment, HL, SS2, BG2 etc.) brilliance... so I'm going for anything from 2000 to 2010

Maybe not the best... and just jotting down what I think you basically HAVE to play over that period. Not even close to what my top ten of all time would be.

1. Half-life 2
2. Vampire the Masquerade: Bloodlines
3. Deus Ex
4. The Witcher
5. S.T.A.L.K.E.R. Shadow of Chernobyl
6. Crysis
7. Beyond Good and Evil
8. Call of Duty 2
9. KOTOR
10. Thief: Deadly Shadows

1. Disciples Gold*
2. Morrowind
3. Mafia
4. Anachronox
5. KOTOR
6. Half-Life 2
7. Baldur's Gate: Dark Alliance
8. Splinter Cell: Chaos Theory
9. NCAA College Football 2k3
10. Spider Solitaire

*Disciples: Sacred Lands was released in 1999, but the Gold edition, which added more than twice as much new content as the original game contained, was released in 2001. It's not just my game of the decade, it's my "best ever".

Well, I wouldn't put any GTA titles in their, I hate their games... These are in no particular order.

WoW deserves to up there, as it is very addicting.

Baldur's Gate II was released in 2000... so it is up there.

Half-Life 2 Definitely

Halo: Combat Evolved was excellent, the reason I got a a console in the first place. Number 2!

Guitar Hero and its predecessors (and the better version for me, Rock Band)

Dragon Age is VERY good, not sure it would be in the top ten.... yet...

Knights of the Old Republic, no doubt. And number 2!

I like FF, but my favorite was number 8 (and before that number 5), which came out for the PC early in 2000... loved that game.

Civilization IV, SO addicting, I would play over and over and over...

DDR??? Played that at the arcade many many times...

Oblivion/Fallout 3...

As you can tell I like open world/rpg games the most. With a few FPS in there. If I would go back further I would add AoE II. I liked the Sims, but not enough for me to play it time and again. And in the next year I would expect StarCraft to go up there, Star Wars the Old Republic (MMO), Diablo III, and maybe FFXIII will replaced FFVIII (maybe). And B:BC2 might make it worth it for me to put it up on my favorites list for the decade.

Not really a top 10, but hey I can't be limited to ten can I?
Professional... well I'll figure that out.

It's too early to fairly decide whether Dragon Age deserves such a high status. When we can look back on it in a year or two however, I believe it will be very significant to the classic RPG genre, proving it can still be done and reinvigorating that environment.

In no particular order...

Final Fantasy VIII
Shadow Hearts Covenant
Deus Ex
Baldurs Gate II
Disgaea
C&C: Red Alert 2
Hitman: Blood Money
Civilisation IV

I'm struggling with the last two, as honestly there aren't that many games I can see myself replaying the sheer number of times that the ones above have been through.

Vampire: The Masquerade: Bloodlines
Devil May Cry 3

It's hard for me to remember all the releases of the year for GotY let alone decade.

Top spots would be Deus Ex and Half-Life 2 though.

Does HalfLife 2 = Counter Strike?

Never played HL2 once, but played CS for years and still go back to it from time to time.

Well, even if we were to assume that all mods and other source engine games are counted under the umbrella of HL2 which 99% of people would disagree with when they put HL2 in their top 10 lists (although there is a good argument to be had for best engine, best mods, best deal etc. etc.) Counter strike isn't even a source engine game. CS:Source is a source engine game which "could" be considered under the umbrella. Technically i would let HL2:MP count, but not CS:S even though CS:S shipped with HL2.

Anyway... so yeah no.

will you settle for eggrolls?

Anyway, thanks for the clairification. I personally did not spend any time on HL2 and was shocked to not see CS mentioned by anyone given its massive popularity. Such is life, different strokes.

Despite what a lot of the gaming media tries to tell us the fact is most people play singleplayer. Counterstrike is a multiplayer only game. I personally have never even played Counterstrike once.

I agree, most people still play singleplayer more then multiplayer (ignoring MMOs) Counterstrike is a good game, but I would say there isn't enough content in it, now let me look at my collection of games.

In no order:
Rollcage Stage 2
Supreme Commander
C&C Tiberium Sun
Portal
Unreal Tournament 2004
X??? (Can't pick so collectively the X series of games)
Grid
Sonic Rush (Both games)
Zelda Twilight Princess
Crysis (Average game, but damn its pretty)

Wanted to pick Freespace 2 but it was 1999.

I really hope that is you being sarcastic. Those games are TERRIBLE. They pretty much show why some parts of modern gaming are depressing.
