3GB 580 On the way

Interesting, but can't really see how a 279% performance boost is possible at such a "low" resolution in Metro (meaning not triple head)

Very nice :)
Trust Gainward to put a monster together like this :D

That should help surround a bit, so whos going to be first to drop the cash on these and get some benchies up of surround performance x]

Excellent, this is just what I've been wanting. 1.5GB just ain't enough for some games in Surround.

I'll put two on a shopping list for when I actually have some extra cash spare. 8)

As for the 270+% increase in Metro... in DX11 with 4xAA... Metro eats VRAM like it was free. To be honest, Metro does that anyway. Even at 1920x1200 0xAA I had Metro jump in performance switching from 1GB to 2GB GTX460s. It's a really, really hungry game. Worse than Crysis; but then Crysis doesn't do DX11 stuff.

I agree. I can't wait for this. It will make running games much smoother due to the fact that VRAM is the major limiting factor at the extreme resolutions for surround gaming.

Two words.

That said I was hoping to skip this generation and get the next generation of graphics cards, namely because my pair of GTX 295 still beat most cards out atm, and I added water cooling to them back end of last Summer to prolong there life and keep them cool.

Surround with 896mb of VRAM ? 1.5Gb is killing my rig, cant wait for 3Gb.

Oddly enough my system is managing rather well, granted there are time where I have to dial back the detail but for the most part its good, although I didn't get many games last year so I don't know.

Unless you cut off most of the eye candy, 896mb wont be enough, thats for sure.

Keep in mind that the coolers on these cards are 2.5 slots, so you need both a MB and case that can accomondate this. :)

That said, I have the 570 phantom version which features the same cooler on the way. Was very curious about the sound on these (and how low I can get it), so I ordered one with my new SB build for fun.

It looks like you can pre-order the Palit GTX 580 3gb from Amazon.com for $628.32 (list says $638).

No release date listed, at the moment.

VRAM is not really an issue for me at 3x1680... but this may come in handy if (when) I upgrade my monitors.
Glad to see multiple manufacturers on this, too. (I mean, Gainward = Palit but both brands announced their own 3 GB card, right ?) Although I still fear the worse for local prices and availability.

Sure, 2560x1600 is the pixel equivalent to low-res Surround 3840x1024. It is by no means a low resolution, though and every additional layer of filters and effects WILL weigh down on framerates. Plus since VRAM overload = slideshow, a 300% increase is not that surprising really... and is no guarantee for smooth gameplay, either. ;)

Well thats what i used to consider, but after all this new stuff like antialiasing flags and Nvidia Inspector, making much easier to override the app aa settings, 1536mb of VRAM doesnt seem to be enough for many titles.

Overclockers.co.uk has the Gainward 3gb GTX 580 on preorder for 479.99 pounds, with an ETA of 4/2/11, (which is either April 2 or Feb. 4). That's a little more than $750 each including VAT, I think. Can any UK people help me out with that date?

Here in the EU we put dates the correct way, in size order, so its day, month, year. Also subtract VAT from that price and you'll get around what it would be in the US, so £400 without VAT, around $635.

Nice. I'm in for two. It said "VAT is not applicable on this order," so we shall see about that....

Pre-ordered 3 of the Palit 2-slot cooler 3GB GTX 580's. These will be stupendous for high resolution surround setups.

Also; just seeing how many people would be interested in water blocks for the new 3GB GTX 580's. It seems the water block manufacturers are on the fence about producing them and it would be nice to show support.

True but remember to check to see if the board is still reference, if its not, standard 580 waterblocks won't fit.
