That adapter looks like it should work as it is active. It is only Single link DVI though so it will not support 76Hz at 1680 x 1050 because of bandwidth limitations.
Single link DVI supports a maximum of 1,920 × 1,200 @ 60 Hz which is equivalent to about 1680 x 1050 at 73Hz. To run the monitors at 76Hz at that resolution you need a dual link adapter.
The adapter should work fine for 1680 x 1050 at 60Hz though and should allow you to create an eyefinity group. If it is not working perhaps the adapter is faulty or there is a problem with your cable. You might have more luck asking for help in the main section as the issue is to do with the adapter which I have no personal experience with but others on this forum might have used it. Good luck.

All of a sudden, one of my apple adapters are blinking horribly.
Do you have any suggestions on how to stop it?
I was running both through a HUB, now I'm running one of them through an dual-usb wall charger with no success.

The only thing that would fix my blinking issues was flashing the newer GPU BIOS with the increased Displayport signal strength. Different drivers or USB power sources didn't help for me.

So, I've got the VGA adapters and the same monitors as this guy. I will tell you, you NEED the DVI (at least single link) adapters to run 76hz mode. Otherwise you get 1440x1050 which is a blurry mess. Windows even says you're running at 1680x1050, but the monitors say the other resolution.
Looks like I need the DVI adapters.
