Chimei 22ED with PS3???

I would like to buy this monitor (Chimei 22ED):

I want to hook up my PS3 to it using a HDMI to DVI cable. Will it work? I mean is it HDCP compliant and HDMI compliant??? I just wana use my ps3 on it. Thnks for any help!

If it's HDCP compliant, you can use an DVI to HDMI Adapter and It'll work. Just note if you want to use another screen, Get a monitor that can do standard resolutions or has good scaling since the PS3 can only do 640x480, 1024x720, 1440x1080, and 1920x1080.

But what i am asking is will it work or not? I mean i don't have the monitor yet so i cant plug the HDMI>DVI cable and just test it. I am asking if anyone here has used this monitor or knows if its HDCP compliant?

I just want to plug my ps3 to it using a HDMI>DVI cable or a HDMI>DVI adapter.

It may be very hard to determine that short of emailing Chimei and getting it straight from them. Reason being that is a Chinese manufacturer that supplies vendors worldwide with similar displays having different model numbers.

The only encouragement I can offer is I do know they make at least one 22" HDCP display now, Google searches and Prad have verified this. It may depend on when that unit was manufactured as to whether it's HDCP compliant. However the bidding appears closed for it now anyway.

I could not find any results on a Chimei "22ED" model, closest thing to it was a 223D. When I look at all the 22" Chimei displays Prad brings up though, none look like the one you linked to. If you'll notice the shape of the stand is different on all of them. Thus I would not count on that one you linked to being HDCP compliant.

It appears from the address of the seller of the display you linked to you're located in New Zealand? If so it would help if you told us what brands are commonly available in your area if you can't or don't want to get that display.

Towards the bottom it does say that the monitor supports HDCP. Does "HDCP Support" and "HDMI Compliant" mean the same thing?

Well i am from Fiji Islands. The only place that sells HD Monitors here has about 3 brands in stock. Samsung, LG and Benq. I am not sure about the models currently but i can confirm in about 12 hours.

In the row where it says HDCP, its says 22ED. Any idea what that means? Does it mean that the 22ED supports HDCP??

Ah ha, I didn't see that. It would appear then that the 22ED does in fact have HDCP. I would still email them just to make sure though if you have no convenient return/refund options. As I said though, that auction link you provided shows the bidding as already closed though. Do you know whether you can still get it or not?

A shop here is selling that monitor but the lady there has no idea what HDCP is.lol. So its no use asking them.

LOL, not surprising at all. If an Apple rep can sit there lecturing me that their 30" display supports HDCP when I know full well it doesn't (happened at Fry's when it first came out), a small shop selling inexpensive brands sure as heck can say I don't know what HDCP is. At least they're not misleading you, whether intentional or not.

Displays are one of the worst items in the tech industry for an overall lack of knowledge from those selling and supporting them. Even so called tech support staff of big manufacturers like HP, Samsung, Dell, etc, will be stumped and keep you on the phone for a half hour or more if you so much as ask them what scaling options a given display has.

There ya go, nothing like an in store test. HDMI and HDCP are not necessarily one and the same. HDMI is just one of the ways to be HDCP ready hardware wise. You can also use a combination of DVI and optical audio or the new DisplayPort. HDCP concerns specifically the copyright protection of Blu-ray. In other words it's possible for two different displays to have HDMI ports, with one being HDCP compliant and the other not.

Nothing like Sony keeping it simple eh? :roll:

On a brighter side, you'll know instantly whether it's HDCP or not - you won't get a picture out the PS3 via HDMI if the connection isn't HDCP enabled.
