You're right the limit is 2GB as stated my Microsoft, but try to google "1610612736 out of memory".

that search gave me no results which caught my eye

Not about WoW. Actually it is the limit used by a server application which I help to develop and this limit is often set for other applications by other people. I do not know the purposes and the exact meaning except it is 0x60000000h. I assume WoW has something like this.
