I am really psyched about this title and completely forgot about it when I was perusing PC titles coming out this month. It's not even on the radar of many sites talking about Sept '09 PC titles, yet will likely be one of the better games of '09. Better yet it's going to be DX11 compatible! The combination of the Ego engine's ability to handle multi vehicle racing efficiently and DX11's more thorough use of GPU hardware rendering will no doubt offer excellent gameplay, visuals and effects at good frame rates.

Codemasters have really listened to player feedback and added more rally cross and stadium venues featuring the new upcoming drivers, multi vehicle racing for online play (everything in the game is available online), more realistic crash damage, higher ploygon vehicles, a non SIM mode for those whom prefer the damage to be cosmetic, and they even made a pit area you can walk around in with your own personal race trailer and car tuning bay vs mere menu race entering/car tuning for a much more realistic experience.

They not only added some fantastic looking rally cross, stadium and RAID venues that appeal to US racing fans, they added some very nice looking courses in places like Croatia and Morocco. Racing legend Colin McRae, whom was the one this whole series started from, must be rolling over in his grave at what a beautiful and well rounded rally experience this game is. What a shame it had been if they'd scrapped the series after his death. If anything this game more than any other in the series will exemplify how the sport has evolved after his being such a world ambassador of it.

Thanks for clarifying, it will be well worth the extra 3 months wait to get the DX11 benefits.

ATI soft launches DX11 on the 10th, I cant wait to hear about it! It doesnt take more than a month from soft launch to retail release so I firmly believe that we will see the 5800 series to purchase before or on the the day windows 7 is released.

Depending on the prices they go with, I could see myself picking up an nVidia 300 series around the holidays. Probably the highest single GPU card, whatever that ends up being.

That is if they are priced reasonably, like $300 for the best single GPU card.

From the latest I've heard it won't be until at least Jan before Nvidia releases their 300 series and I doubt the top shelf single GPU card will be that cheap. The GTX 285 hasn't even come down to that yet and it's been out a while. I think the best case scenario will be $400 and my guess is it will be at least $500. Reason being it isn't just a new series, it's a new die size and DX11 capable. They will however have to keep it in reason because DX11 will bring hardware physics, AI and post processing rendering on the GPU, so Nvidia's CUDA won't be so unique at that point.

I would expect exactly that, unless ATI strikes again but I doubt they can do the same this time around ....+

Not only not unique, but redundant and no developer in their right mind would choose CUDA (or the AMD equivalent that never took off) over a standardized system and alienate over half of their potential audience.

Well it's all good news to me because had CUDA dominated I might have speced my next build with a 16x, 8x, 8x MB to use dual two slot GPU SLI with a single slot midrange GPU for PhysX. Knowing this I can go back to the more affordable and simpler dual vs tri SLI MBs and probably have less driver problems because of it.

I have read benchmarks indicating two GTX 280s and one 9600GT for PhysX beats 3 GTX 280s, but that would only be in the few games that support PhysX. If DX11 is as good as they say it is, two top shelf single GPU DX11 cards may beat 3 top shelf single GPU DX10 cards. However if that's the case they'll also price them accordingly.

Back OT though, DiRT 2 looks so good it may be the game that makes me finally break down and get a wheel/pedal set. Still dreaming of an economy version of the G25 with no clutch and H shifter. I've seen the Driving Force GT at pretty low prices, but it has cheap pedals.

If two high end cards dont beat two high end last gen cards I would be severely disappointed.

But yeah DiRT 2 looks amazing, I actually bought my wheel primarily for the first DiRT. I'm really looking forward to DiRT2 especially after seeing what they did with GRID.
