I have just downloaded Flight Gear which I am running with a GeForce 9600 GT graphics card and Vista Home Premium. I am currently using FSX and X-Plane which work perfectly.

According to the list of supported games FlightGear is included. But having updated SGU to v 2.10 I see FlightGear in red text and the comment "Game CFG file not found".

I have installed the latest version of FG which installed without problem. The program path in Win Explorer is C:Prog FilesFlightGearbinWin32fgfs.exe but the path in SGU is C:Prog FilesFlightGearbinWin32 i.e fgfs.exe is missing.

Initial reuest for help from me to Matrox:

"I have tried to type the file name into the window but cannot do it. I have also run FG and then run SGU 3 times but the .exe file is not found. I have closed down after each attempt to see if the SGU can find the file but it has not done so. At present, when I run FG all I can see is a centre part of the instrument panel in very sharp detail, no matter which resolution is selected in the FG set up page. Is there some way to be able to see all the panel and also the view out of the cockpit?"

I have tried contacting Matrox and as you can see from the messages shown they have not been very helpful:

Have you tried copying the cfg file to the specified location to see if that makes a difference?

It seems that the SGU is looking for the cfg file but it’s located in a different folder. You may want to complete a search on your system and then copy it to the specified location.

You will need to search the file in Windows and not through the SGU. Once you’ve located it then you can copy it over.

Me: How do I do this?

Matrox:What I am suggesting is to copy cfg file. In order to do this you will need to locate it and then place it in the root directory where the SGU is pointing too. To do this, you will need to search your hard drive for this file.

For further support, I would recommend visiting a 3rd party site called http://www.widescreengamingforum.com this site has users which use our product can help you resolve this issue.

Thanks guys, that's a real help!

Can anyone suggest how to set the path correctly?

Thank you

Whats the name of the .cfg file ? You should search for it in your HD, then copy it, and paste in the exact same folder the SGU is using to search it :

C:Prog FilesFlightGearbinWin32

You may also try to launch the game without THG (normal resolution) and change the GFX settings i.e. , then apply and save, quit game and check again if the SGU can find the .cfg file.

Dear thales100,

Thank you for replying. I have made a couple of screen shots as .jpg files which I would like to post but I can't see how to do it. I have looked at the SGU window and that shows exactly the path you have quoted
C:Prog FilesFlightGearbinWin32

But I can't make SGU find the FG .exe file, how can I do this?

In some programs you can Browse to the required file which I think is FGFS.exe but SGU doesn't have a Browse button and I can't write anything in the SGU window. It seems to me that the program has found the street but it can't find the right house.

I would like to try your suggestion of changing the GFX settings but I don't know how to do this and would be reluctant to change too much since FSX and X-Plane run OK.

I appreciate your help,

Thank you.[/img]

The SGU isnt looking for the FG.exe file, this is the executable of the game, it generally uses a .cfg file to change settings making possible THG to properly work.
Try to start game and change some GFX settings in its in game menu, then apply and save, quit game and run SGU again, sometimes the .cfg file is available after you save new settings.
You may also use the search function of your PC to find the .cfg file, then simply copy it and paste inside the folder SGU will look for it :

C:Prog FilesFlightGearbinWin32

Dear thales01,

I have looked for a .cfg file for FG and can't find one. I even tried *.cfg ; but nothing related to FG appeared.

I have also un-installed, downloaded a fresh copy of FG and re-installed it using the default values and still I see the message "Game CFG file not found" in SGU - can you please tell me the path to your .cfg file / what is it called?

I have tried to use the Cessna (not the IFR version) but all I see is the centre of the instrument panel spread over 3 screens; there is no distortion of the image.

I have just tried to load FG onto my XP PC which only has a single 19" TFT - FG would not run on that. Again the splash screen ran perfectly but this time it hung.

I waited a minute or 2 but nothing happened; when I used Ctrl+Alt+Del I received a message that FG was not responding.

Is there a fault in the current dowmload file?

I don't understand what you mean by " change some GFX settings in its in game menu ". Can you please be a bit more explicit.

I am grateful for your patience.

Sometimes you have to start the game 1 time up, so it could make a .cfg, maybe it is here the case.

you don't need the cfg or even sgu. you have the game on three screens. now all you have to do is learn the basic keys and zoom out, then maybe right click mouse until you get mouse look. I had it loaded up for about 10 minutes to try and help you out. all it took to get the full view was learn the keys. After I figured that out I uninstalled the game, it's just not very good looking to me at all and is not nearly as nice as FSX or even FS2004. Of course it may have looked better if I'd actually gotten off the ground but I just didn't have the interest after looking around my plane with mouselook. the zoom uses the x key and shift+x btw.

Dear PapaLes,

I am very grateful for the effort you have made on my behalf. I took your advice but nothing happened.

But when I changed the GamesRes line from Res=3840x1024 to Res=4080x768 all was OK.

Thank you again,

Yours sincerely,

The short time I had it up it was at 4320x900, that's the best my ATI can do. Glad you got it running. I didn't really give the game a fair trial as it didn't do much to perk my interest.
