[quote]Well I had no luck, it wouldn't even finish loading windows. In the end it wouldn't even POST. It seems this board just doesn't like a BCLK that high. :( A BIOS update may help this, but we'll see. Don't want to do that just yet.
Which is weird, as since all the X58 boards use the same chipset, they all behave pretty much the same. The CPUs, on the other hand, can be good, or can be picky. It's the first time Intel have had an IMC, don't forget. Sometimes the IMC is picky and doesn't like it.
What batch chip have you got? Might be a 'poor' clocker. :(
Haven't a clue! Look at cpuz in the ss, thats as much as I know :D
[quote]I'm now at 20x180 again, the vcore is showing 1.264V under load but I've enabled Intel Turbo whatyamacallit thingy that adds an extra multiplier to the clock. So it's at 21x180, resulting in 3.8ghz. Seems pretty stable with Lynx, temps are currently hitting 70C with 4096mb tests.
If it's still stable with Turbo Mode on, that's good. :D Mine wasn't. :(
Yeah seems to be fine. My mobo doesn't allow me to select 21x, but with turbo turned on, it goes up to it. Seems a bit odd.
[quote]So from here I'm gonna increase the BCLK 1mhz at a time just to see where the limit actually is. Somewhere in this 10mhz it craps out, which is shit. Although my temps are reasonable, and 3.8 is where I wanted to be, having the RAM slightly underclocked is a shame. Although that is still overclocked for this board as it doesnt support 1600mhz RAM at stock.
Well, you might be able to drop that DRAM voltage a tiny bit, or tighten a timing or two if it's running below rated. :) My Corsair stuff will do 1600MHz 9-9-9-24 at 1.65v, and not a nanosecond faster. Even 9-9-9-23 makes it unstable.
Yeah, that's the stock voltage for the RAM so i left it at that. I was considering tightening the timings. They're currently on 8-8-8-24, I could take them to 7-20.
[quote]Lynx is showing 48.4Gflops, so I'm 1 off you. Must be the extra BCLK.
Probably, mate. LinX is very sensitive to every last setting going. RAM frequency, latencies, BCLK, QPI link speed, FSB, cache, HyperThreading... all of them have an effect.
Yeah, it peaked on 48.63Gflops. It was stable for 50minutes until I stopped it because I wanted to do stuff lol. Max temps were 71, 70, 69, 68. How tidy.
Will try the small increases in BCLK later and see how it goes :) I am pretty happy at 3.8 really. Can't really complain.
