Operation Flashpoint (correction)

Post by Widescreensteff »

Hi

Operation Flashpoint is pretty old now, but I still like it, so I installed it on my 16:10 laptop and looked here for widescreen information.

Unfortunately, I cannot reply in the original thread:

http://www.widescreengamingforum.com/node/5410

so I write it here: I think there is a mistake! I don't think the "invisible" value ist 1.3, I think it is 1.333333. That makes much more sense, since 1.333333/1.333333=1.000000
So since I have a 16:10 display, I calculated: 1.6/1.333333=1.2

So I changed the line to fovLeft=1.200000; and the game looks just fine.

I hope the original thread can be expanded.

Bye

So that's a correction of 0.30769 to a value posted almost four years ago. Now that's what I call customer care  Well done !

It'd be really great if you could post a couple screenshots ;) (4:3 to 16:10 comparison for instance)

Like this?

This is the game with fovLeft=1.000000; on a 16:10 widescreen.

This is the game with fovLeft=1.230769; on a 16:10 widescreen.

This is the game with fovLeft=1.200000; on a 16:10 widescreen.

This is the game with fovLeft=1.000000; on a 4:3 screen. (Actually 1024*768, but i increased it a little bit so the vertical size resembles the one of the other screenshots.)

As you can see, fovLeft=1.200000; results in the same aspect ratio on a 16:10 screen as fovLeft=1.000000; does on a 4:3 screen, and the game is hor+.

Excellent :bowdown
You could have posted the 1024x768 pic... It's not that big of a vertical difference and it's always better to have the original thing ;)

Danke schön anyway !

Addition

Post by Widescreensteff »

Since I played Flashpoint a couple times in the last days, I also played it on my other computer, which has a 5:4 Screen (19" 1280*1024). I know this is a widescreen forum, but some might be interested as well.

If you change the line fovTop=0.750000; to fovTop=0.800000; and leave fovLeft=1.000000; the game acquires the correct aspect ration on a 5:4 screen:

This is the game with fovTop=0.750000; on a 4:3 screen.

This is the game with fovTop=0.800000; on a 5:4 screen.

As you can see, the game is now Vert+. That's right, Vertical Plus.

You're right, that's because 5:4 is "Vert+" compared to 4:3... not Hor- ;)

Would you consider working on a Detailed Report for Operation Flashpoint ? You could grab The_cranky_hermit's template and browse the DR forum to get the idea of how it's done. It's not hard or tedious really, just a matter of demonstrating how various aspects of the game behave in widescreen with comparison screenshots...
Feel free to decline :) but if you're interested I'll be glad to answer any question you may have, right here or by PM.

I second that notion, he's done a great job making a correction to a previously thought corrected aspect, showing his math, and taking the screenshots. Really he's pretty much almost halfway done with the DR already.

I guess I could do that. I don't have access to bigger screens, so I cannot test many resolutions. But sure, I can do a review.
