Or , wait, is that the amount of time the game's "active" for? Or is that the ETA on the download?

The former.

Grrrr. It went as high as 45%, but then for no apparent reason it changed to "Download starting..." and now it's back to "Updating 0%."

Yeah every GB worth of game I get from STEAM costs me 1.5GB of my download limit...worst thing about STEAM IMO. Otherwise it is great.

Mine did that. The only way I was able to force it to download without stopping is to right click on the game name and hit launch game. The window will start saying Prepping to launch but since the game isn't downloaded all the way it won't. However, it will keep it downloading.

New Steam update supposedly takes care of the "Download starting..." problem. Haven't really noticed Steam using more bandwidth than stated (I think it might be less, actually).

Restarted Steam , applied the update, and my download has now started again. On 2%.
Cba, cancelled.

Well, I've got it now. So far, I can't say I'm very impressed. It looks great, and deathmatch is kind of fun, but overall it feels very consoley. CTF maps seem to go on forever, especially vehicle ones, and Marty McFly's hoverboard is a really stupid addition. Only instagib CTF games seem to go anywhere. Warfare mode feels tedious and annoying to play - Onslaught was much better. And Assault mode is MIA. And the singleplayer mode is needlessly elaborate - it's still a joke.

Also, the quick play function seems to consistently drop me into servers populated entirely or close to entirely with bots.

Free weekend is happening again next weekend due to the troubles everyone had downloading 8GB at once from steam.

You can preload the game to be ready to play it when the weekend comes.
