The big news of the week is that World of Warcraft was Certified for perfect widescreen support. I wanted to put these pics in one thread, to highlight the difference in widescreen implementation with the "Lich King" version of the client. The first picture is 16:10 widescreen with the original client implementation four years ago. The second picture is 16:10 widescreen with the current client, and the last is Wide Surround, using the Matrox TripleHead2Go. In all pictures the red is 4:3.

Original WOW client, with Vert- implementation.

"Lich King" WOW client, with Hor+ implementation.

Although I don't play, - or give a rats arse about WoW - it's still good to see devs are finally starting to get this widescreen thing....

Rejoice, addicts!

Craftheads?
Warcracks?
Losers?

Surely there's some stupid term for the hardcore Warcraft players...

Still a bit nervous about GTA IV and the new PoP, though. GTA in particular, as I am a GTA addict. And I'm itchin'.

12 days to go.

its nice they finally fixed it, and the reason I got my th2go

I noticed 2 bugs in tripplewide though, one of which can be seen in the above screenshot.

the player arrow on the minimap seems to scale with the width to height ratio somehow, so in tripplewide its supertiny.
like a few pixels tiny. its the same on the big map, almost impossible to see your position and even harder to see the direction you are facing.

I havent found a mod which replaces/adjusts the arrow, so if some1 finds anything, please post it. have to run with rotating minimap for now to see in which direction I am heading.

The Blizzard combat text seems to scale with the ratio also, although in another direction ... the text is frigging huge, crits fill up like 1/10 of my screen's height. Exp messages are the same

the mod SCT cant change the fontsize, just apply its own font to the blizz text.
however I found a mod which can display the damage I do in an appropriate font size : MikScrillingBattleText.
it just sucks, that it cant display the damage over the position of the monster like Blizz's addon

Try the addon Carbonite. Replaces your map, and adds a new minimap to follow quest objectives. Can do some other funky stuff too, I think it's ace.

thanks for the hint, tried it, didnt work for me.
on the minimap the arrow was still tiny
on the normal map it was normal sized, but didn't rotate anymore like the original one, it always showed upwards

Hey let me know if you find a fix for the small arrow thing ChainSOV.

Also, I use Perl Classic Unit Frames and the scaling is off on the pictures so you can see the inside of their heads only instead of their faces.
