Admin Update 19-Nov-09:
I am working to overhaul the Master Monitor List. Going to stop doing the individual monitor pages, and expand the info on the list itself. I have added a column for 57Hz support. You can see it by clicking on the "Monitors" link in the left nav.

Original Message from allanstrings ...
I recently upgraded my multi-monitor setup to include a DTH2G, and I love it, but one of my monitors cannot handle the 57hz refresh apparently. I have 2 Chimei CMV-221D 22" TN displays that work great, never had a bit of trouble from them and they run at just about any refresh i have tossed at them, and I have an Asus VW223T 22" that works very well at 60hz, but cannot handle anything else, despite the manufacturer's data saying it will do 56-75hz. When running at 57hz, it has terrible ghosting that is visible for over 5 seconds on bright colors, and the backlight flickers rapidly sometimes. I have never seen these problems when it was running standalone.
I am going to move the Asus to the far right of my setup and use it for a TV/console display, and get another monitor for my center spot... however I haven't been able to get another matching Chimei (Newegg doesn't stock them anymore, and Ebay scares me for a monitor). With the Asus' specs claiming it can handle 57hz, and clearly unable to, I am worried about purchasing another monitor blindly. Can anyone vouch for a 22" that is confirmed working at this refresh?
We should start a list of known working and non-working models to help out those who are system building so they can avoid this pitfall...

The "known working" list is a MUST, thanks for that :)
Hopefully I'll be able to add the ViewSonic VX1940w (19" but 1680x1050) to it soon... *crossing fingers and counting days before the mailman's coming*

I can confirm that my VW198T would boot into Windows fine. Except that two of them were DOA, so only the left most showed. I could swap cables and pick up the 2nd and 3rd images for verification. Assuming it's 57Hz on the windows desktop, that one was good.

I believe the Samsung SM-2253LW will work, I set 1680x1050@57Hz and dualhead [email protected] I believe my 9800GT drivers are stopping me from confirming 3x1680x1050.

Probable problem model
DELL E228WFP
Reason - Only supports 1680 x 1059 at 60 Hz.
The "Probable" is because I can't guarantee it's the issue, but I think I've addressed everything else.

Silly question, but does anyone have any comparison data, or opinions, on the 22" monitors that work? Since it looks like I'll have to buy replacements for my DELL E228WFPs, I'd be grateful for any advice.

Is checking whether or not your monitor will run at 57Hz as simple as -
A. Seeing if you can select 57Hxz in Screen-> right click-> Properties-> Settings-> Advanced-> Monitor tab-> etc and seeing if 57hz comes up, or
B. Seeing if 1680x1050 @ 57Hz comes up in the available modes in the Matrox Power desk, or
C. Both A & B
Just making a final check that I haven't missed something before buying 3 new screens.
Thanks,
CJ
