DiRT2 Eyefinity on Windows 7

Post by Vaitek »

To get DiRT2 to run on my system I had to force DX9 in the settings. It was way to slow with the my eyefinity resolution to the point of freezing.

Go to C:Users(USERNAME)DocumentsMy GamesDiRT2hardwaresettings and edit the "hardware_settings_config.xml" file in notepad.

Look for the setting "" and change it to true. I adjusted some of the other settings down to help with the framerate, but the game looks great in eyefinity! If you are able to run it with DX11 and I'm doing something wrong please let me know.

Here's a video I took of the game running on my system.

sorry, your case is NOT DX11 compatable.

On a slightly more serious note, what drivers are you using for the graphics cards? :)

Somethings not right there as my system is lower spec'ed than yours and I can run Dirt2 at 5760x1080 no problems.

LOL! I'm using the 9.12 Hotfix.

Not sure, it runs fine in DX9, but for some reason the thing just won't run in DX11.

I'm getting the same issue with Dirt2 and in my case it's definitely Crossfire that's killing it. 36fps avg with one 5850, 11fps avg in Crossfire .

Still haven't had the chance to try it, but that's odd. When you disabled the crossfire were you able to run it with DX11? This a problem with crossfire or with dirt2 or DX11?

I also had major problems getting this to work, however once AA was disabled from the game menu, it all ran fine.

I have no problem running dirt2 with DX11

anyway. do the game look much worst with DX9?

I might use DX9 rendering (I havea 5870) just for the FPS boost.

running 5760x1200 do drop the fps but I don't want to lose eyefinity view

Do you run with crossfire enabled? shockabuku said he had problems in DX11 with crossfire enabled. Disabled it ran in DX11 fine. I haven't had a chance to run it again with crossfire disabled to test, but if I get the chance tonight I will.

Sorry for the delay in responding. I decided to re-install the 9.12 hotfix drivers, and lo & behold, things are looking better. Here are some benchmarks I just ran. The cards are 5850s at stock speeds, all benchmarks with Eyefinity @ 5760x1200...

DiRT2 ULTRA preset
Single GPU = Avg 30.0 Min 22.9
Crossfire = Avg 48.4 Min 37.5

DiRT2 HIGH preset
Single GPU = Avg 30.4 Min 23.9
Crossfire = Avg 49.9 Min 39.9

My understanding is that DX11 is being used on ULTRA settings, but DX9 on HIGH.

I've got a Core i7 3.6GHz single 5870 and like you, three 2343BWX Samsungs. Dirt 2 runs fine with DX11 as long as I disable AA. You just need to tone down the settings by a notch. When I enable really high texture settings and AA settings, the frame rate takes a nosedive (3 fps) probably because at these extreme resolutions, you start hitting the 5870's 1GB onboard RAM.

I did follow the advice of dropping the detail levels and AA and was able to run Dirt2 with DX11 enabled and with CF. So just make sure you don't have the detail and AA levels too high. Thanks all!

I get 50-ish FPS, ultra settings (med. post procesing)
2xAA (use application settings ON in CCC)
vsync OFF
I only get a drop to 30 when outside the trailer.

Just wanted to chime in for anyone looking for additional reassurance. Fired up the game with my original settings pre-eyefinity(max settings) game was averaging around 2... yes TWO frames per second. After watching the slideshow and waiting 10 minutes just to get to an in game options menu I dropped out of game.

I went into DocumentsMy GamesDiRT2hardwaresettingshardware_settings_config.xml

around 12 lines down...

- The key here is 2xaa at the end.. make sure you change it to that... once I did that it was smooth sailing.

Additional tip.. if you dont have Microsoft Excel installed you can edit it in note/word pad.

Good luck

Hello,

I have a very similar set-up and am having issues running this game on my PC. Below are some specs on my set-up:

Intel Core i7 920 Processor
EVGA 3x SLI/CrossfireX Capable Motherboard
ANTEC High Air Flow Case
6GB High Speed DDR3 Memory
850W Power Supply Unit
ATI XFX Radeon 5870 Video Card
10,000 RPM Velociraptor 150 GB Hard Drive
SONY 24x CD/DVD Burner/Reader
3 Dell P2310h monitors
Windows 7 64 bit

When I go under the graphics menu and select the lowest quality presets as well as 2xAA along with the widescreen resolution. When I exit the menu and allow the settings to take effect, the screens go black. I wait the 15 seconds for it to revert back and it doesn't. The screens stay black and I can still hear audio in the background. I then have to navigate my way out of the game blindly to restart the procedure.

Also updated the ATI drivers.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks!
AJ
