Yeah it seems now I'm getting crashes off a vanilla install of Stalker and it never crashed before, I think it's time to delete registry and other random out-of-install-folder files.

Funny (or just stupid), because i posted the Far Cry 2 specs.

D'oh.

Anyway it turns out they're pretty close, other than video ram.

PCGAMER (UK) said it was pretty average, below expectations, in this month's review. They gave it 68%. Review here
I didn't like the original STALKER, and it seems this won't be changing that.

I have been really looking forward to getting my copy this Friday ...
The original STALKER was for me easily the best game in a good number of years ... although it did take a few mods to get it that good ... :P

BUT ... those review suggests real disappointment for me ... :(

This from the IGN review in particular ...
'Atmosphere' is a dangerously vague word to apply to a game, but it's the touchstone description of what the original Stalker did best: spookiness, grimness, weird beauty. Atmosphere is what Clear Sky most critically lacks, and why it could be the most disappointing PC game of 2008

There is hope ... also from the IGN review ...
S.T.A.L.K.E.R. was made so much more of by patches and mods because it was such an impressive skeleton of a game.
As I mentioned ... what made STALKER so good was those mods.

I would take anything that IGN says with an enormous pinch of salt, given some of the reviews I've seen there over the years. Pretty much every game I've ever been totally addicted to, they absolutely hated.

Looking forward to this, but will hold off buying it for a while until the modders have had a chance to get inside the games' guts. ;)

I'm not sure Paddy has that type of willpower...

Let's hope Paddy's not disappointed. ;)

(Although from experience, when I wait ages for a game, it's never that great. When I stumble across it by accident, then it is awesome...)

I'm not sure Paddy has that type of willpower... ... Ha ... he-he ... not when it comes to games or computer stuff ...
I did some of the modding of STALKER myself ... :P ... so I may just have to get back into it.

EDIT ... OT but talking about my willpower ... how long after release do you think it will be before I have one of these ... ... http://www.danamics.com/danamics-lm10.aspx

We discussed this in another thread (I say 'we' I mean 'others of the WSGF') and mostly came to the conclusion that if it's good it'll approximately equal a good single 120mm-radiator watercooling setup, and if it's pants, it'll be as bad if not worse than many of the expensive-but-useless aircoolers. Honestly, I don't think it'll make much of a dent because it's expensive, but the laws of physics mean that while it'll get the heat off the CPU fast, it won't be able to dissipate that heat fast enough to be really effective (120mm fan on Thermalright Ultra Extreme 120-size heatsink...)

Of course, I'd be happy if they prove me wrong, but chances are they'll simply prove me right.

I played, maybe 2 hours...didn't care for it...my 6800 at the time wasn't up for it...maybe now...but honestly I didn't think it was much of a fps. More of an MMO than FPS style IMHO

Mine arrived today ... :D ...
However it needs some modding for TH ... so I'm going to leave it a while for some mod tools to become available.
Hopefully by then there will also be some mods/info to help any poor gameplay issues.

I do have the willpower to wait if it gets the game better ...
