If classic games were designed by different devs...

Just name a classic game, and describe how it would be different if someone else had made it.

The Secret of Monkey Island, Sierra Entertainment
For starters it wouldn't be called "The Secret of Monkey Island." They'd call it Pirate Quest, the sequel Pirate Quest II, and so on. Obviously there would be a *lot* more ways to die. Losing insult sword fighting against the tougher opponents would kill you, walking too close to the edge of a cliff would make you fall down into the sea and drown, getting too close to the piranha poodles would make them eat you, getting caught by LeChuck or his crew kills you, putting a vital inventory object in the cauldron would render the game unwinnable, etc. Remember the segments in Marley Mansion where Guybrush is set on auto-pilot and does crazy stuff like using gopher repellent on everyone, using a staple remover on a yak, and shreds a Manual of Style making stylish confetti to be given to a heavily-armed clown? Those segments would be left exactly as they are, but without the auto-pilot.

Hideo Kojima's Civilization II
The Spy unit would be completely invisible to the enemy, be capable of destroying entire armies, and could make cities convert to your side without costing anything at all. But every turn would feature at least 45 minutes worth of cut-scenes filled with plot twists, backstabbings, and deep philosophical issues (even more if you decide to have the wise men research nuclear fission), and every time you give any order to the spy, there would be a 20 minute "codec" sequence that usually begins something like this:
Spy: This is Snake.
You: Snake, your mission is to move one square to the east.
Spy: How I know I can trust you?
You: Remember, survival is CRITICAL to your mission! You'll be in enemy territory for this mission.

Team Fortress 2, by Nintendo
The characters would all be gun-toting Miis that have varying specs but all have the same base abilities. Special abilities would be granted by collecting powerups. First team with player who gets a really good combination of powerups (like super agility combined with invisibility) pretty much wins the match. 16 on 16 matches would require that all 32 people know each others' Friend Codes, and there would be no communication ingame.

Super Mario Brothers by Rockstar

Being plumbers , they carry wrenches - they bludgeon everything to death with them , its possible to continue hitting dead enemies for additional blood splatter.
Mushrooms give the animation of Mario actually taking Magic Shrooms , effects are... well.. ill leave that to your imaginations.
Fire flower gives fireball power , fireballs do not kill enemies instantly - instead setting them on fire where they crawl around and scream for ages.

Madden series by Nintendo

Controls would be simple, straight forward, and would actually require "throwing" the Wiimote hard enough to lob the ball down the field for a pass. Accessories not included, but would be much appreciated, Wii-football for Wiimote placement. Accessory slated for release 1 month after game release, with multiple third party knockoffs at release, making the official version pointless. Many sports gamers would instantly whine about sore arms and elbows from needing to actually do physical labor to play.
Current build: Intel i5-4670k | 32GB DDR3 | RAID0 2x250GB 850EVOs | nVidia GTX980Ti (MSI G1 Gaming Edition) | SoundBlaster Zx | Dell 2405FPW (Landscape, primary) & HP w2338h (Portrait)
