3 screen multi monitor woes

Post by tiff_leeuk »

Hello all, I am new to the forum (as per my greetings post in the hello section) so please be gentle ;)

Initially when I started looking at multi monitor gaming a couple of years ago I was using an ASUS MW221u 22", at the time I couldnt afford two more of them and for some reason decided I would buy 3 x LG L1954TQ 19" monitors. However after purchasing the first 19" I decided I couldnt afford all the monitors and TH2Go and so left the 19" at home and the 22" at work.

Recently I picked up a Hanns G 28" HD281 and a week after I read about the Ati 5xxx series and eyefinity (been out of the hardware loop for a while!).

Now i'm a bit gutted as if I knew I could do triple screen just with a new gfx card I doubt I would of bought the 28" and just got some more 19/22".

Has anyone done triple screen with monitors as large as 28"? The immediate problem I can see is the HD281 has about an inch wide bezel, I am tempted to pick up a cheap ASUS MW221u off ebay and just put the pair of them with my 19" lg.

Just looking for peoples opinions/experiences.

thanks, Lee

Well a few things of note: You need a monitor with display port or you need to buy a $100 DP > DVI converter.

Pairing different screensizes really does not play that nicely with eyefinity.

I doubt it; the select few with triple 30" monitors at 7680x1600 seem to like it quite a bit.

Here's Maxishine, that crazy Aussie, playing Crysis Warhead across three 30 inchers at 7680x1600:

For that, you really need two 5970s. Three 28" monitors won't be a slouch, but they won't require the absolute top of the line, since WUXGA (1920x1200) is about half the resolution of the 30" monitors.

EDIT: Also, there's another thread somewhere on the forums about creating your own multi-monitor case to shrink the bezels. I don't know if you're interested in that much work, though.

Go with 3x24" with DP native support.
Professional... well I'll figure that out.

I had that 28" HannsG and when i decided to go with 3 monitors i was tempted to buy 2 more.
But it had so bad contrast and was poor quality overall so i decided i'd sell that one and go with 3x26"
The cheapest ones i could find were AOC 619fh and those were way better than my HannsG.
When i compared it to 28" before i sold it, difference in size was not so big to my eye.
I bought them and stripped the bezels off.
This is a mobile phone photo. Thin isnt it? :)

Thanks for the response peeps.

I decided to stick with my 28" for now and see if anything comes from those rumours of samsung releasing thin bezel monitors specifically fro an eyefinity setup as they will hopefuly have native DP capability as well.

I ran three I-INC 28" (27.5 actual) on a TH2G with no problems. I loved it until I dropped one monitor during a move. The bezels were quite wide and I intended to remove the frames but after dropping the one there was no use. I won't be replacing it for awhile as I want to go eyefinity next time and need to save up for the card first.
