I'm just wondering if anyone knows of a UniWS fix for NFS Most Wanted. I recently found the one for Carbon and it is much nicer than having to type the resolution in every time the game starts up.

Had you looked around a bit you would've seen this:

I know, that's what I've been using. But a would like something else that works a little better. The problem with nfsmwres is that it starts up in a lower resolution, then it fixes itself. This would work okay exept sometimes windows end up squished when the game is quit.

As far as I know, Racer_S's memory hack is the only solution available. The people here are pretty well on top of things, if there another solution was found I'd expect someone would have been listed it.

Inconveniences are unfortunate, but to be expected when the game was never designed to work with widescreen in the first place.

since the codes are identical for nfs underground 2, nfs mw and nfs carbon, you just have to either edit the uniwis data file to copy the nfs u2 into one for mw with the right.exe or just rename your existing nfs mw .exe to patch and rename it back afterwards, best just to copy so you keep an original though.

Wait a second; so UniWS works on NFS: Carbon? Most Wanted as well? Sorry I must have missed that info. I suppose it's not inconceivable that they'd have the same pertinent hex strings to edit as Undergound as they probably kept recycling the same basic engine.

It would be a rather simple matter of updating the patches.ini to support these games "officially" through UniWS if that's the case.

If it can be updated to add "official" support, we would certainly want to have that done. I don't have any of the NFS titles to test on.

NFS Carbon UniWS
If it makes any difference, That's the fix I found for Carbon. It works just as well as the one for NFS Underground 2.

GASP! http://www.widescreengaming.net I never knew such a site existed. Having grown attached the site here, I kind of irrationally hate them as copiers and charlatans! ;)

Anyway, assuming the hex edits are the exact same as NFSU2 as reported here, then you would merely add the following to UniWS's patches.ini. I don't know the filename of the games' executables so fill in where is says "" as appropriate. Whether the comment about the exe needing to be cracked still applies - I have no clue, I'm assuming it does.

At the top section:
Code:
a17=Need for Speed: Most Wanted
   a18=Need for Speed: Carbon

At the bottom of the file:
Code:

   [Need for Speed: Most Wanted]
   details=Patches any game version, but only works on a cracked game13101310Select the 640x480 resolution in game to use your custom resolution.
   checkfile=<whatever the game's exe is>
   modfile=<whatever the game's exe is>
   sig=80020000C701E0010000
   sigwild=0000110000
   xoffset=0
   yoffset=6
   occur=1

I had modified my copy of uniwis with:

[Need for Speed: Most Wanted]
details=Patches any game version, works on any SPEED.EXE13101310Select the 640x480 resolution in game to use your custom resolution.
checkfile=speed.exe
modfile=speed.exe
sig=80020000C701E0010000
sigwild=0000110000
xoffset=0
yoffset=6
occur=1

[Need for Speed: Carbon]
details=Patches any game version, works on any NFSC.EXE13101310Select the 640x480 resolution in game to use your custom resolution.
checkfile=nfsc.exe
modfile=nfsc.exe
sig=80020000C701E0010000
sigwild=0000110000
xoffset=0
yoffset=6
occur=1

not sure if the .exe change but they can be just about any name I think, I have about a dozen nfsmw_widthxheight.exe in my folder which I made to play depending which monitor I'm using.
