So my dir-655 router claims it has "Auto Crossover (MDI/MDI-X)"
I take it that means i can replace my regular cat5e ethernet cables on my home LAN with cat6 crossovers without issue, right? I'm getting cat6 for better LAN transfer speeds and crossovers because I found them for half the price of regular ethernet cables at the length i need. (20-50ft)
Just want to make sure before I order them. Or am I better off with plain ol' regular cat6?

Crossover cables for LAN ?
No, it means that it'll figure out whether you're using patch or crossover cables automatically, and adjust accordingly.
Patch cables are PC->router/switch connections. Crossover cables are needed for direct PC->PC networking, with no intermediary.
Although a lot of modern onboard LAN chips have auto-crossover support, rendering the point somewhat moot.

Buy the crossovers, and post a link to purchase. Great thing is exactly what Para mentioned, most new equipment is crossover auto-adjust, so not only do you have a cable that's going to help at a lan party, but will be effective with your new equipment in a normal setting. If your router is crossover tolerant, then you're set with any computer.

Crossover cables for LAN ?
Well i ended up canceling the order and instead got two regular, better straight UTP 50ft cables and a 14ft crossover so i can stop dealing with shitty dsl modem/router combos that i have to content with. Still all cat6. Plus some friends have antiquated routers.
..and more audio/video cables, while i was at it. Can never have enough.
thanks for the responses.
