On a lookout for a new 24" monitor or two

My current spec:
Q6600 @2.4GHz
GA-P31-S3L P31 Express Chipset
Zotac GeForce GTX 275 896MB
2x 1GB modules
Audigy2
USB mouse and Keyboard
2x 1TB Samsung F1 drives (not currently installed, awaiting to be done)
600W PSU
Currently using a 19" CRT scteen and a 17" secondary flat panel.


I will be looking to get two screens soon (one at a time though). :lol: I think I narrowed it dowm to two brands, I'm liking Samsungs or a Dell as they seem to get good reviews, not too sure on the models. Definately want them to have DVI, not bothered with HDMI, when I want it I'll get a plasma screen and build a small pc for HDMI stuff.

What I do is play games:
- S.T.A.L.K.E.R (Both releases)
- Crysis
- RA 3
- CoD 4 MW + WaW
- Wofenstein
- Protoype
- Grid

Also mess about in Photoshop but not professionally, mainly for amateur work

Haven't looked closely at the spec as yet so this my future upgrade or maybe a flaxible wall mount.

Right sorry for the long intro, what I'd like to be able to do is play games and maybe watch a few movies on these screens, also to be able to work with Photoshop. Max I think I'd have to spend per screen would be about £250-£260 inlc VAT.

That may be just enough budget to afford the upcoming NEC MultiSync EA231WMi 23" e-IPS display, which reportedly will have an MSRP of $379 USD. Street prices will no doubt be a bit lower though.

I know it's not the full 24" you mentioned, but if you're planning on doing photo work it would probably be better than an S-PVA, which are getting rare anyway. Dell is about the only one consistently making them anymore.

If you wish to raise the budget a bit, you should keep an eye on the Dell U2410:

Looks like a chance for a working sRGB preset and it has support for xvYCC (great for blueray). 10-bit colors and precalibrated.

$899 SGD is about $600 USD . That would have been a good price years ago for such a display, but nowadays with the advent of e-IPS, it's certainly not looking that affordable, especially in times of recession.

There have been lots of people arguing on Hardforum whether this kind of display even makes sense. Some are skeptical as am I whether the WG in such a display will just cause too much color saturation for casual uses like movie watching.

Seems they are trying to fit all niches of the market, and you really need the profile setting ability of something like Spectraview to do that well. At 31 ms ave input lag, it appears to be lower than your NEC LCD2690WUXi, but I would guess it isn't as adaptable to non professional use as yours is.

Then again this display would likely be perfect for small and/or startup businesses that can't afford the more expensive pro displays. For consumer use though, I think the NEC EA231WMi, or better yet something a bit larger with the same tech once it's available, would be more suitable to all round use, and more affordable too.

Are there any 24" 1920x1200 e-IPS monitors? I'm intrigued.
