Half-Life is the groundbreaking FPS that follows the "everyman" hero Gordon Freeman. This is the first installment of the ongoing series, which ties together aliens and government conspiracies. Really, this game doesn't need any introduction...

Because you need to adjust the FOV manually in order for it to be hor +. This is the way it was when the game was first put into the MGL, and that's the way it still is. Nothing has changed, therefore there's nothing to update.

Half-Life (Steam version) not updated

I was going to make this exact same thread; thankfully I searched.

Looking to get educated:

When a game offers a widescreen resolution like 1280x800, obviously in cases like this it isn't going to be Hor+. Is it Vert- for Half-Life in this case? How does that work?

Does anyone know if applying this fix automatically fixes other HL1 engine games running off the install, like Opposing Fore or third party mods like Natural Selection?

Thanks.

Hor/Vert changes aren't a function of resolution. 1280x800 can be Hor+ over any 4:3 ratio. Specifically think about 1024x768 vs. 1280x800. On the Hor, you're adding 256 pixels, and only 12 on the Vert. With proper FOV support, that would definitely be Hor+.

Are we talking about a non-source version?

Yes. We're not talking about Half-Life: Source. We're just talking about the Steam version of plain old Half-Life.

All of the half-life games and mods allow the selection of widescreen resolutions, but they are all vert- unless you change the FOV. I've listed to the best of my knowledge which games support FOV changing below.
@august, although changing some settings like resolution does affect other half-life engine games, changing the FOV and other console commands do not carry over from game to game. If you would like to set separate options for games you can do so in launch settings for the game, and if you would like console commands (such as FOV changes) to be entered automatically each time you enter the game, you can do so in the games "autoexec.cfg" in the games folder.

Support changing FOV:
Half-Life
Opposing Force
Blue Shift
Sven CO-OP
Team Fortress Classic

Do NOT allow FOV changing (they think it's "cheating"):
Counter-Strike 1.6
Day of Defeat
Natural Selection
Zombie Panic
Science and Industry
Brain Bread

Unconfirmed
Ricochet
Deathmatch Classic
