surround solution on 1 monitor (to make detailed reports)

Is it possible that i can run a surround resolution on my 22' inch widescreen monitor? I thought if i could add a resolution like 1680x560 and try that, but does anyone know if that works?

Maybe does cranky know more, because i can't recall that he has a surround setup (but i could be wrong)
