Widescreen Windows (but at a lower res!)

Hey all,

I have a Hanns G 19" wide screen that want't to run at 1440x900.

I need to drop the res down so I can see the icons on the screen 8)

I want to run at something like 1280 x whatever.

Anyone know how to do this as I am having kittens.

I have messed about with (and failed) the nvidia scaling.

Anyone done it and can point me in the right direction? Should be easy for some of your guys if you can hack about with games to get them WS!!!

You should leave the res at 1440x900 since that is the native resolution for that screen and use the windows settings to make text and icons larger.
You can make the changes in windows going to properties.
Using a lower resolution may make the screen look fuzzy and not so sharp.

Have tried that, but things are still to small - when you go into outlook etc.

On old monitors, you could get one that was designed to run at 1024x768 but you could drop it down to 800x600 or even 640x480 and it would work fine.

There must be a way to drop this down.

OK, I have taught myself aspect ratios and worked out this is a 1.6:1 monitor.

That would mean i just need to get windows to run in 1280x800 if possible.

Any ideas anyone?

p.s. It can't stay at 1440x900

However, I think what puppeteer was trying to say is that the desktop will not look very sharp if it's not in its native resolution. Another possible solution - is it possible to move the monitor closer to you, or is it in a fixed spot on your desk?

Rule of thumb is that you should be 2x the diagonal away from your monitor.

So, for a 19", you should sit 38" away from it - or you will screw up your eyes.

Anyways, that is beside the point! The font is too small for someone with poor eyesight, even if I got right inside the thing!

I can understand graphics being funny out of ratio, but hopefully, by sticking to the ratio, it will look ok.... hopefully!!!

Normally going to Display Properties (Right-clicking you desktop, and clicking Properties) allows you to change to any resolution you want. You don't see 1280x800 on the list? That's very strange. Another thing you can try (you might have tried it already though).

Go to your Nvidia properties. Then screen resolutions and refresh rates.
Here select the resolution you want. Now if you have selected the resolution nad it has black borders, you need to do the following. Prss advenced (or something like that). Normally you can select stretch now. If that doesnt work, you see active front and active back. The number in active back should be the same as in active front. The same for vertical lines.

Ex. Active front = 1280 then active back should also be 1280. (Now it stretches the screen).

Then press ok.

This should work.

I'm sorry if the menu's have other names, I'm from belgium so i use the dutch nvidie drivers. :-)
