Rainbow Six Las Vegas

Post by Lee Mc »

Hi all

Just got Rainbow Six Las Vegas and its yet another new game that doesnt support widescreen resolutions baaaah!
Anyone figured out how to get widescreen modes yet ?

Another thing is this is the first(FULL) game other than that roboblitz thingy to use Unreal Engine 3 and to be honest I'm a little disappointed with the graphics and also the framerate , the textures are ..... well.....blurry and not clear at all close up and the framerate is crap , its very up and down depending on the area your in but goes from 20-60fps on an 8800GTX and oclocked 4800+(2.85ghz) at 1600x1200 which is poor imo especially considering the poor overall quality of the graphics.

Must be some others have tried the game , what are your experiences with it , framerate and graphics wise ?
Maybe theres an issue with the 8800 hardware and this game , and other hardware has a better time of it , would like to know tho , at least i'd know things will improve with a patch or summat.

I've only known the series for its lighting, not its set design, texture, or model details. Its apparent not much has changed. ;)

When someone gets the widescreen format, would be greatly appreciated. I'm anticipating it for release =D

omg this port is a of crap! ok, I dont have the high end machine, but I thing Unreal Engine 3 should run nice: 3.5+, 2 giga ddr, 7600 gt 256mb... and 12-20 FPS is a joke!

in 1024x768, but native lcd is 1440x900, ingame got 1280x960 as a choose, but of course it doesnt fit, takes down to 1100x830 thing...

looked over the .ini-s didn't find anything useful, its a SHAME!

Yeah I started playing this on my PC but about 10 minutes in I decided if I'm going to play a 360 game I might as well play it on my 360. Sick of these quick ports.

There is no wide screen or TFT resolution support in the game, you can edit the configuration file stored under my documents to get higher resolutions but doing that involves using a hex editor. Using wide screen resolutions means a messed up HUD as there is no way of changing the F.O.V in game or via configuration files, i've tried and it made no difference.

I've included some configuration files which have been edited for 960x600, 1280x800, 1440x900, 1680x1050 and 1920x1200 which are all 16:10 resolutions and 1280x1024 for normal TFT's, game settings are at medium, providing you do not alter the display resolution ingame you can increase or decrease detail settings as you wish.

Rename and Copy the file of the resolution you want to the following locations.

Rename file to R6GameConfig.bin

Place the renamed file in your "My DocumentsUbisoftR6Vegas" folder over write if you get prompted.

R6Vegas.rar

File is hosted on putfile.com size of file is 2,899 bytes (2.8kb)

Very nice, thanks. But the standard 16:10 resolution is 1680x1050, not 1650x1080. This appears to be correct in the edited config file, just not in your post.

Thanks madmos5y ... and welcome to the WSGF .... 8)

As soon as I have the game I'll be checking this out for sure ... :D
Would it be OK for us to host the file here at the WSGF ?

Thanks ...
Does it expand the FOV or just give the widescreen res ?
Do you have any screenshots of it in action ?

only gives the wide screen res, found settings in the normal ini files relating to FOV but they made no difference, no idea where or even if it is in the bin file.

Couple shots at 1440x900 as you can see the HUD is a little out of place and the sniper scope is a tad off but otherwise its fine. Beats the blurry mess it was before :P

I'm sorry to say it doesn't work here. I have renamed the 1680 file, overwrote it, and all I got was 800x600, low details :(

Sure ? the title screen is low res for me anyway or it seems it, if you take a screen shot and check its res you can see for sure then. Ignore what it says in display settings it will always show the default not the new one but the game will or atleast should be in the higher res.

Looking at the screenshots the HUD doesn't seem too bad it just isn't scaling with the res.
Also comparing the shots with others I have seen I think the FOV is getting wider ... I'm about 99% sure ... 8)
Any chance you could post a couple of shots from the same spot ... one in widescreen and one 4:3 ?

Sure np,

1024x768 4:3

1440x900 16:10

Ahh yeah does seem like the FOV is ok, just the HUD needs sorting out. As its all distorted specially when zoomed in.
