I want to play c&c95 with my new widescreen monitor using the whole monitor. I clicked on ccsetup and set the resolution to 640x400, but when i open the game the monitor still stretches everything and claims it is in 640x480, what do i do?!

I saw that too. C&C: RA has the same thing, doesn't actually output 640x400, just draws for 640x400 in a 640x480 window. Try setting the monitor to stretch mode and see if that helps. You have to use monitor scaling for this one. Although I must say, RA in 16:10 WS is nice, even if it is blocky, it's still a fun game.

Check the wiki on scaling options. You have to check your monitor's settings. In most Dell widescreen monitors, there's 3 modes.

1:1 - Exact pixel for pixel, no bigger (640x480 would be tiny in the middle)
Aspect - Screen is stretched to the top/bottom of the inside of the screen, but the aspect is kept intact, so 4:3 game will have black pillarbars on the left and right
Stretch - Screen is stretched to the full size of the display, this can cause distortion, but this is the mode you want for C&C and RA1's 640x400 option as it will make it look proper again rather than stretched tall.

They do that when you set the resolution to 640x480. If you set it to 640x400, they draw 640x400 in a 640x400 window.

Use video card scaling, not monitor scaling. You'll need a semi-decent video card from nVidia or ATI, the latest drivers, and a DVI cable.

Umm... I've never once been able to set it to 640x400 and have it output 640x400, even with the RA95 Gold Patch. Do you have the game and can confirm this 100%?

i don't thionk my geforce fx 5600 ultra can do video card scaling, and my monitor doesn't seem to have that feature. So I'm not going to worry about it until i build my new computer in a few months. I was looking in my videocard settings and i found things like "CRT position and stuff so i lost hope.

Yes.

C&C at 640x480:

C&C at 640x400:

That would mean you are using a VGA cable. Scaling only works over DVI.
