Silent Hill 4

Post by Cleaver »

Hi everyone. Before I ask my question, I'd like to say that I think your forum and website are great!

Silent Hill 2 and Silent Hill 3 both have widescreen patches.

Why not Silent Hill 4? Is it possible? If so, could someone make one?
Possibly Squ1zZy, or ToCA could make it?

Thank you so much for your time.

PS: Special thanks to Squ1zZy and ToCA, your patches are absolutely perfect. Thank you!!!

I found this.

Apparently you can use a program made for a Need for Speed game to change the resolution from 4:3 to 16:10.

After researching what exactly you have to do, it seems to be a real pain, and you have to apply it every time you start the game. Is there anyone out there that can make a simple patch that will be everlasting?

I'm no hacker, but it seems that if the blueprint is already available, then it shouldn't be too hard.

Thanks everyone for your time.

Good to hear, I'm just about due to replay the game again and it would be great to do so in widescreen.

Hello, I'm new to the forum. I'm looking for a respatch for Silent Hill 4: The Room too, but it seems that the only it's with ArtMoney (I'm the author of the silenthillheaven's thread Cleaver^^).

Has anyone found a solution?

Thank you in advance.

Cleaver thanks to this tool you found I can now play Sid Meier's Pirates! at my max resolution of 1920x1080 without any abnormalities. I'm going to try other games that I ran into issues with and see if this tools helps out. Thanks again!

Artmoney, like tsearch, cheat engine and countless others is a general memory search and edit tool, typically used to cheat but can be used to change fov in a game as well. I played with that a bit in UT3.

It's not technically made for NFS, that was simply the example game they used.

I'm about to give this one another go soon and I doubt anyone is going to make a patch. I haven't used Artmoney yet but I'm sure you need to do some hex editing?

I'm not really sure how to do that...so if anyone could please tell me what I need to do for a 1920x1200 resolution that would be great.

General example:

In UT2004 or any unreal really, there's a console command for FOV.

In such a game, a memory patch doesn't really help since you've got built in fov changes, but still, let's say the game itself doesn't care for values over 100 and just assumes something like 'fov 200' = 'fov 100' but you really need more than 100, what you need is to find the memory address value where that 100 is changed.

To that end you'd load unreal and artmoney.

To make sure we know the start value we type 'fov 90' in UT.
Now in artmoney we select the UT process, start search for 90.

Once it's done, in UT we type 'fov 100'.
Again, in artmoney we continue search for 100.

Repeat change of FOV in UT with different values and search accordingly until only a few or just one address remains that matches the changes.

Once we have that address we add it to artmoney's address list and can then use it to poke that address with whatever value we want, such as 200.

Since we poke the memory value directly, the in-game command fov's max of 100 isn't considered, the value is just changed.

Provided you found the right address, going back to UT you should see a FOV of 200.

____

Now, this was just a general example, I'm sure artmoney or whatever memory program you can use has built-in examples or tutorials.

Tonight I'm going to give this a shot because I just beat 1-3.

I'm looking to play at 16:10, 1920x1200.

In lifestream's screenshot,
http://img169.imageshack.us/img169/1439/silenthill4200803241357ft6.jpg

It looks like the game is really stretched, which to me says that he was able to get the correct resolution but not the right FOV.

In SH3 my wFOV and hFOV are 0.91 and 1.1

So I guess I could try that, right?

But I'm not sure which integers the FOVs are in SH4? Just 100 and 100?

Also, to find the resolution strings, you just do a search on whatever resolution you have set in-game right?

And lifestream, do you have AOL Messenger? Because it would be cool if you came up with a tutorial on how to do this.

Thanks everyone. <3

OK it's been about a year now since I've last played it, and I started playing tonight. The idea for the room is so different and artistic. I like this one better than 3 actually. In my opinion it goes 2, 1, 4, 3. Actually as I get older, SH seems to be the only game I play anymore, strange.

But anyway, the whole time I was thinking, man this would be so much better in widescreen. So I've decided to take this into my own hands.

I haven't been able to get into direct contact with lifestream yet but maybe some of you experienced people here can point me in the right direction. (or maybe I need to stop expecting to have my hand held through this whole process)

Now, I know how to increase the resolution to a widescreen ratio (at least I think I do), but the question is, how do we change the height and width field of view with the program Artmoney? If you help me, that's good karma for you :)

If you don't have the game I think we all know how you can get it without leaving your house. And believe me, it's definitely worth playing.

If you are reading this squ1zzy, there's no one more I'd rather talk to on this than you. So if you have MSN, [email protected], AIM, cleaver2787

Thanks everyone <3

Edit: Mesh, is the default FOV for every game usually 100? Does it change given the resolution?

I'm really going to work on this today, so if there are any Silent Hill fans out there reading this, expect a fix soon.[/b]

Silent Hill 4 Widescreen Patch

Post by Garnet »

So, it’s been two years since the last comment.

Frustrated by the lack of solution I just went and did the patch myself.

I used free ArtMoney for all the searching, filtering and hacking so here’s the table (in attachment) with addresses for resolution (width & height) and field of view (FOV, horizontal and vertical). Just read description fields when in ArtMoney.

And here’s the result on my 1680×1050 display:
http://dl.dropbox.com/u/14800342/sh4_wide.jpg

Don’t forget to slightly adjust FOV if you have a 16:9 display because the values in table are for 16:10.

Post by Rope »

Garnet, how were you able to find the FOV values in Artmoney?
I'm trying to fix the FOV of ObsCure II in the same way you fixed it in Silent Hill 4, but I don't know what values to look for to find the FOV data.
