Finally Battlefield 2 in Widescreen with correct FOV ?

Post by Paddy the Wak »

Hey guys ...
Racer_S had managed to get the FOV to widen independently of the GUN ... 8)
When I have time later today I'll post a few new screenshots ... :D

@ NightWarp
on one side in exited about this like everyone.. but screwing with PB is dangerous.. specialy if its directly with PB... they might not like it... and HW ban you... that means canot play any pb games... it not.. then its a kick from the bf2 server only, or maybe a ban.. at pb discretion
they might 'silent' catch it and do nothing until the day they clean house....

The FOV hack doesn't screw with Punkbuster at all ... it is just that the hack is an independent programe and so Punkbuster shouldn't see the FOV change as a change to any Battlefield 2 files.
You may be right and Punkbuster may pick up the use of the hack and then one day ... as you say ... "they might 'silent' catch it and do nothing until the day they clean house...."
We won't know untill they "Clean House" ... All I can say is I have been using it for several hours online ... no problems.

Finally Battlefield 2 in Widescreen with correct FOV ?

Post by NightWarp »

I understand.. i just recall that .. in example, for other PB games, Americas army is the one ill use since i play it.. they went for literaly months, gathering infos and all, without doing anything.. (much to the pain for us player..) then one day blam, few thousands or hundreds account banned.. some for offences long past..

Its a gamble.. personaly i wouldnt risk it.
as innocent a hack as this is.. and as nice it would be, i wouldnt dare.. PB might not care 'what' it does, and slam you just as hard as it does the other 'bad side' hack user... ya know the ones.. aimbots/radar/unlimited, ect ect ect

Ill wait for official support.. (like that will ever come :( )

just trying to bring a friendly warning

PS... extreme long shot... but once its done and completed... send it to PB and get them to verify it, and then allow it.. ? its worth a try... no?

Sounds like a good idea ... I'll see what Racer_S has to say.

Thanks.

You could aslo try ACI (AntiCheat Inc) since they are starting to get in BF2 with ban scripts like in AA. They might be able to help to.

BTW nice work it is really appreciated if it passes the PB/EA approval

Oh no ... sorry guys ... today I was kicked from the game ... :(
The message said ... the reason for the kick was ... Corrupted File/Memory 8130

Racer_S will see what he can do.
If not I guess is to only play it on servers without Punkbuster ... :(

The latest version was working so well too ...
Some screens of the latest version ...
1600x1200

1920x1200

1280x1024

Setting up the gun for TripleHead is a little tricky as there are many ways to have the gun ... here are the better ones ...

I figured PB would catch it sooner or later. It's an "unfair advantage"

Kinda like saying having a faster computer is "unfair."

What about every other game that supports ws? Most games in wcg and cpl supports ws. Everyone can get the solution for bf2 right here as the rest of the game solutions. A lot of 4:3 gamers think ws is cheating but there are more to it than that, connection, hz(crt), gaming gear, fps, skill etc. WS isn't always to an advantage while playing i.e fps games, since you see more on your screen and on the sides it can distract you if someone come from the other side while looking at the other side thus slowing your reaction down a some ms but long enough to get you killed.

To bad about PB. Like the rest I was hoping it would work. The new screens looks great. The gun looks good in the first one.

Oops I edited my reply a bit to late :D. I added this part:

I agree as well. I'd like to use CS:S as a good example, being able to see 180 degrees around you is an amazing advantage. But so is surround sound, so is a good connection, and sometimes a bad connection is good too. I do personally hate how games like CS:S give an advantage to people with 56k. So it's like why are we extra paying for cable? Ahh... Anyways, hopefully EA will see this "hack" and realize how easy (Or not so easy?) it would be to implant widescreen into the game.

Personally, I don't think widescreen is anywhere NEAR as big of an advantage as surround sound or even a pair of good headphones.

I'm just getting into BF2, I got the game for free the week it came out but I just started played yesterday, but I've played a lot of Counter-Strike: Source and while I love that the game supports widescreen perfectly, it's nowhere near as big of an advantage as the game's surround sound coupled with my good speaker system. I can hear anyone coming from a mile away and know exactly where they are, thanks in no small part to the fact that in Counter-Strike you can somehow hear a person's footsteps through 4 walls haha...

Headphones are really advantageous in Counter-Strike also since you can easily catch every little sound, but it's much harder to tell where some is compared to having center and rear speakers.

And also, owning an X-Fi, I have to say Battlefield 2's sound is really, really, really impressive. Oh, and Battlefield 2 has THE stupidest menu system in recent memory. The key bindings system drove me nuts. At least I finally got my controller mapped, after realizing that I couldn't bind Axis 0 to rolling until I manually cleared out every single control in the "movement" category and entered that particular one FIRST. And this is with the latest patch.... how sad is that. Also, why is the text in Battlefield 2 so crappy? I'm running native resolution (well with black bars obviously) and GUI looks terrible, noticeably the fonts. Ah well... At least the game is fun.

Sorry guys ... it is not looking good ... :( ... Punkbuster doesn't like it ... :(

I changed the title of the thread to reflect this ...

Finally Battlefield 2 in Widescreen with correct FOV
changed to ...
Finally Battlefield 2 in Widescreen with correct FOV ?

Racer_S is still working on it though ... lets hope he can sort it.

Oh ! and ...
In my opinion having an extra wide TripleHead screen or a widescreen is not cheating ... especially when anyone with the money can go buy the same if they want to.
Like a 100 meter sprinter that doesn't have the money for spikes ... does he call all those that do have spikes cheaters ? ... should spikes be banned ?
Of course not ... next they will be saying that getting gaming tips from magazines and reading books on gaming strategy etc. is cheating ... hey lets all go out and burn books as they cause cheating ... !

It is only cheating if it is against the rules of the game ...
Is it against the rules ?
Who makes the rules ?

I'm getting carried away ... sorry ... but you get my drift ... ? ... :D
Having a Widescreen or TripleHead hasn't made me any better or worse at playing games ... it has just enhanced my experience.

Anyway back on topic ...
Regardless of the Punkbuster problem ... I'm going to have lots of fun playing this on my TripleHead systems with the hack ... either in a LAN game (all be it just two humans in the game ...) ... or the single player game.

I agree with the sound. With a good set you can hear exactly where they are as you said.

You might want to talk to punksbusted, they really are the premier hack-catchers in the gaming world today...They are big.

I'd maybe talk to them about whether this is considered a hack or not and maybe try to get supported by them...

I would love correct FOV...

Damn, the menu on the 3 screen one is...HORRIBLE...
